That taped up pipe quite looks the business and the whole locomotive looks superb.  Given that what references I have state that they served some time beyond the end of the war, I'd love to see someone do a post-war one.

Know where you're coming from re: the Archer dry transfers, mate! ::)

Can't say my experience with them has been good so far, probably struggling to reach fair-to-middling, actually. >:(

I'm going to keep trying, for a while, & may try looking up any hints or tips on the interwebnet. :-\

Does anyone know if Cartograph do generic numbers & letters in various sizes & fonts? ???

1/35 BR-52 - FINISHED!!
« Reply #153 on: November 18, 2014, 10:29:51 AM »
Greetings everyone
Well, the moment we've all been waiting for - well, I have anyway - it's finally finished!
Yes, after what, 9 months or so, it's over. The cursing, swearing, long nights and multiple painting sessions have accrued to this. I hope it's been worth your time.
As I said right from the start, this is my very first engine I have ever built and most likely my last.
I am really happy with how it's turned out overall and IMO; it’s my best work to date. It still needs figures but they'll come along when it's time to build the dio I have in mind for it. For the moment though, I used the kit supplied base but added my own ballast to it and some greenery for interest.  I had a b***h of a time getting the rails to sit on the ties and in some cases, it didn't.
This is my own fault for adding the ballast before I inserted the sleepers. On the K5, I'll do it in reverse and add the sleepers before the ballast.
The 2cm flakvierling gun on the back of the tender is quite an intricate model really. I probably should weather it, but I like the contrast it gives the engine.
The original back story I had in mind is the engine had just come back from the front (which explains the dirtiness of it) and has gone
to pick up the K5. As added support, a new flak gun was placed on the tender. Once the dio is all done, I'll add small things to it like chains etc. to give it some more interesting things to look at :)
So, before I start loading the pics, a quick rundown of the AM parts that went into this - this list isn't very big
LZ models resin detail set
Eduard "Big Ed" PE Set4
Ballast and grass
A lot of time spent filling in ejector pins and mold shift marks
This is not a kit for a beginner! On more than one occasion, it almost ended up in the drawer of doom but I persevered and it's now done
Thanks to all those who watched my WIP and especially to those who assisted me with technical stuff. Enough waffling, here's the pics:

Well, that's it for now. Thanks again for looking

Kind regards

Simon

Gorgeous!!!  You're tempting me to see if I can resurrect an old project, a cab-forward conversion of the Revellogram UP "Big Boy" with a streamlined cab.  Since it's in 1/87 (HO) scale, track is rather easier to come by.

GADS? Man - I am sooo behind on my acronyms....
Thanks fellas
I made a start on the K5 tonight, so I'll kick off a new WIP thread soon. However, from all that I have seen so far, the K5 is by far and away the better produced kit of the 2. No mold shift and no really visible ejector marks. Mind you, the suspension is already giving me the sh*ts with it's fiddly configuration

I keep coming back to look at this (I can't help myself) & I'm thinking that just a little touch of weathering & grease or oil around the feet & traversing mechanisms on the flak gun would add that extra element of reality.

I seriously mean "a little touch", though. So it looks new but not fresh out of the paint shop.

Thanks Brian and Wombat - your appreciation is welcomed :)

yes I agree - the Flakvierling does need some weathering. I'm also going to added welded eye pads and chains to the tender so it looks like it's actually secured to the tender as opposed to just sitting there.
These are things I will done once I have the dio set up and ready to go.
I bought some German figures yesterday - the new ones from Trumpeter and also a set of German tank crew at rest playing soccer which is produced by a company that I can't recall the name of right now (I'm at work and the set is at home) but they were just what I was looking for
Now all I need to do is get a set of German Train engineers and a German Field Officer and have them "discussing" logistics whilst the rest of the gunnery crew (K5 and Flakvierling) play games and read letters :)
My original idea of having the train attacked by a Spitfire has had to be changed due to constrictions on shelf spacing

Wombat, yes, that is the set I have. Nicely molded too I might add  :)

Thank you Antonio, coming from one whose work I admire greatly, that's a big compliment.
