MEV -Mars Exploration Vehicle
OK, a late entry. Need a break from the D9R.
Had to see if it would work and look right. The suspesion works and the body looks right. So .....
The victims -

So cool! It all comes together so well.
-
You are right: camo on Mars planet is... different, not green at all...
-
That is just so hot.
Great mashup of bits and it looks really right
-
This looks great! I wish I could build so quickly too! I love the com dish.
-
Great Build. Love the details!
I confess I have a similar project on the bench (actually only 1%, the rest is still in my mind) but using only a Scud-B kit :)

Ready for paint - thinking white with black numbers and a lot of orange dust. A few caution panels and some detail colors.

Loos like a realistic extrapolation from a rover like Curiosity to a manned rover. I would go with white, but easy on the orange dust - it's more of a reddish brown. Here are two MSL selfies (both are big and detailed):
This one has been processed and it's not 100% "Mars true color" but has great detail:

This one is closer to true color:

You can also Google "MSL wheels" to see what sticks, typical wear and damage (https://www.google.com/search?q=MSL+wheels&biw=1876&bih=981&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiUrNeFtpjLAhVY7GMKHVKFCwsQ_AUIBygC#imgrc=5Yhbqa36NCYm_M%3A)

Thanks Frank3k, great reference pics. Will stay to the brown side of orange for sure.
-
May I suggest beating up the wheels too? The rover pics look like the wheels take some damage driving over rocks.
-
Its white !!! :o :o

Well, you do like white plastic! ;D
-
Finished - Learned a couple lessons that will help with my D9R.
1. Put the flat coat on after the wash, before pigments. If you look close you can see the pigments found the tide marks from the wash.
2. Apply the pigments after the flat coat, the flat coat took the color away from the pigments.
Comments welcome !!

Looks great!
-
Awesome job! Congratulations! Looks like a real vehicle - could be a very convincing movie prop!
-
I like it! 8)
My only (minor) critical observation is that the pigment build-up in some places, especially along the bottom edges & in some angles, looks a bit heavy & coarse. :( :-[
-
Great job - well done! :)

Yes, trying to get the pigments to look like dust was a hard lesson. :-\

On my FSBR (http://beyondthesprues.com/Forum/index.php?topic=5194.105) (my 1st &, so far, only use of pigments) I dusted on the pigments using a make-up application brush, lightly blew off the excess &, using the same brush, lightly dusted it in the direction of "fall" or "wash" then sealed it down with a light coat of dull-coat carefully misted on for the 1st coat to avoid blasting the powder off.
I actually ended up having to take off a lot using a damp brush before the dull-coat, as it was well overdone initially for what I wanted, but that initial look would have been perfect for your Mars Exploration Vehicle.

:)

thats way cool Steve! Love it!!
-
Awesome job all around!
Looks like Mars needs a car wash!
-
Superb!! I love how its hard to tell where it came from as well, I would never guess 1/48 scud wheels!!
-
Great finale, with that eerie martian weathering!
Will you consider setting up a diorama with it? It really deserves it! :)
