What kind of GBs can we look forward to for the coming year? I hope to wrap up my last two profiles for this GB, then start work on some other items, but I like to try and coordinate those with a GB theme when possible. I was just wondering what GB we'll have up in January.
Cheers,
Logan

David Brins book "Earth" has some potential in particular "includes a war pitting most of the Earth against Switzerland, fueled by outrage over the Swiss allowing generations of kleptocrats to hide their stolen wealth in the country's banks." The fall out of this war is Switzerland in nuked and left uninhabitable with the surviving Swiss population creating floating cities living on and by the sea.
I do like the term kleptocrat, i.e. institutionalised corruption and thievery.

Oh, you mean Government? ;)
-
Yes but also big business behind government
For the actual build I was thinking of the floating facilities / sea bases, ships, aircraft, commerce related platforms etc. Basically water world but with a better, almost Roma or Zionist flavour, back story; driven out, ostracised, disenfranchised but still proud and defiant doing more than just surviving.

Will get something up soon re this. One I can say I would like to see is a WW1 themed GB...
-
Unarmed GB.
> Recon, AWACS, cargo, tanker, airliners, rescue planes.
> Retired bombers and fighters are now racers in their respective classes.
> Retired armored cars, halftracks, tanks, SP artillery are now racers in their respective classes.
> WIG trans ocean transport or commuter ferry or private craft.
> Plenty more subjects........

WW1 GB does sound like a good idea.
another idea ive been playing with is the "Disbanded Nations", in witch the idea is to build a model of a vehicle/aircraft/ship operated by a nation that does not exist anymore (for exsample East-Germany, Rhodesia, Yugoslavia, Austro-Hungaria,.....). however, Nazi-Germany would not be allowed.
another idea woulb be a "Next-Generation GB".
where we build models of future vehicles/aircraft/ships (exsample F-22, F-35, LCS, UCAV/UAV,....)
-
"WW1 GB does sound like a good idea." I agree.
Can't think of anything to build. Still like to see what others come up with.
Treating WW1 like Luft 46 by stretching it to 1922-25 is a variation that can open more possibilities.
DH 10 advances to become DH 11 or ?
-
Scale-o-Rama GB.
Minimum 2 or 3 significant and identifiable parts are of 2 or 3 different scales. Use as many scales as you care to beyond minimum.

Yes yes yes, Battle Cruisers here I come!
-
I like Volkodav's post about the book. How about a "Book GB" or "Print GB" IE anything in a book, magazine, comic book/graphic novel, poster, pamphlet, etc...? I'd be game for that one most assuredly 8)
I also really like the idea of treating WWI like Luft-46 IE extending it into the 1920's. Battlecruisers abound!!! There are some USN designs I'd like to build from 1919-1925 I could enter.
-
Luft19 or similar would be in as would totally different WW1 scenarios...maybe even one where the war was avoided.
-
Wasn't there something mentioned about a "Nuclear GB" IE anything to do with nukes, weapons or propulsion would be a go? I have an idea lined up for it and need an excuse to start building.
-
Those are all some great ideas. I would like to offer the idea of spacecraft. This would be anything that is in space. Make your best wiff of a ship or station or whatever you want. We do need several GB ideas, don't we ?
-

I'm in for this one!

Another fun one from a few years back was the April Fools GB. Perhaps a longer version of this?
-
Folks,
Next weekend I will put up a poll regarding the first couple of GBs for 2014. Please make your suggestions here for now. Please also revisit the Ideas and Suggestions for GBs/Themed Builds thread (http://beyondthesprues.com/Forum/index.php?topic=49.0) to review previously made suggestions. If you want to re-highlight any of these, then please do so in this thread.
Regards,
Greg

Are we thinking more RW or anything space including "soft" Sci fi like Star Wars? ??? I would be up for it of course
I think the WWI/1919 GB is a must, and I would like to see Air/Land/Sea/profiles and stories included for it, and I will gladly moderate it if needed. :) there are just a myriad of ideas and possibilities to play with.
I am good for the nuclear GB as well. I also want to bring back one of my suggestions from earlier this year, An OOB/Paint scheme GB. Where everything built must be out of box, and the head-turning whiffy goodness comes from a sexy/snazzy paint job :-*
More background here:

:)
Great for profilers as well, and of course civilian schemes would be allowed (You know, like how my privately owned F-14 would appear ;) )
-
Ok, I did not reread all of the GB discussion thread so here is my idea
Radar and Early Warning
Bring out some AEW Whiffers, Radar Picket Ships, Ground Surveillance Radar.
You know.. this kind of thing

I know an ISR GB has been suggested before (http://beyondthesprues.com/Forum/index.php?topic=2328.msg34241#msg34241) and I think something along those lines is quite doable as long as we keep it broad enough. How about this? We call it "Snoops, Spooks, & Spies" and allow for all ISR type entrants. That sound neat to anyone?
Cheers,
Logan

Do you think we could merge it with Buzzbomb's idea there? Or is that too far apart?
Could be a lot of fun to see all the spy stuff whiffers can come up with :icon_ninja:
-
My post was a response to buzzbomb's. I was agreeing with his suggestion, but just saying that we should broaden it to include all ISR assets.
Cheers,
Loga

I thought that might be the case! ;) Worth including Electronic Warfare and ASW in there too? Submarine detectors and SIGINT are big jobs as well. :)
"Snoops, Sensors, Spooks, & Spies" GB
-
Those are included in my description. SIGINT and EW are often referred to as "spooks" in US parlance, at least.
Thanks,
Logan

Possible suggestion: The Commemorative GB. This would allow for builds/profiles of modern platforms in older ("commemorative" if you will) schemes. For example, these F-35s in the schemes from WWI, WWII and the '50s/'60s:

I think that's good, but we should also probably allow for the reverse of that anachronism. If someone wants to do an old aircraft type in a new scheme, you should be able to.
Cheers,
Logan

Nay To Grey!
Anything normally painted grey to have some other color(s).
All kind of realms can be done. Obviously aircraft, but armor, even ships.

"Snoops, Sensors, Spooks, & Spies" GB
:) Neat idea!

So call it an "Anachronism GB"! :) Sounds good.
Sorta related: there were three P-51 Mustangs in the What-If 2.0 GB over on ARC. One in a pre-WWII P-26 scheme (not finished, sadly), one in modern Mod Eagle colours (LINK (http://www.arcforums.com/forums/air/index.php?showtopic=261621&view=findpost&p=2536763)) and a "Thunderbirds" Mustang (LINK (http://www.arcforums.com/forums/air/index.php?showtopic=261621&view=findpost&p=2490620)). All looked fabulous!
-
I like the "Snoops, Sensors, Spooks, & Spies" GB idea. Very cool! 8)
Unfortunately, the chances of me being able to build an entry are extremely.

How about the gas turbine / jet engine, was never perfected and we had to make do with internal combustion engines, steam and nuclear

I see no reason why that could not work. Mind you, maybe it has already been happening in the real world... ;)

Odd, the Marine V-22s I saw earlier this year weren't that colour.

Its Experimental and has only been tried on a couple so far (Note the VMX on the tail) :)

For WWI
Here is the description:
CARICATURE MAP OF EUROPE 1914
The Clanker Powers:
Germany is a massive military machine with weapons aimed outwards to all surrounding countries. It points threateningly at Britain, not so much as a sign of direct aggression, but more as an indicator that it was now Germany’s turn to start a grand global Empire to challenge the world’s current one.
Austria Hungary is an aggressive armoured giant, teetering on shoddy foundations. It is also the primary aggressor in a land grab against Serbia, with two bayonets piercing the border.
The Ottoman empire is a teetering automaton, collapsing under the weight of a paranoid and ungainly spying network that gazes at Europe through many lenses and spy glasses. Istanbul is labeled Constantinople following the period's English naming conventions.
The Swiss watch ticks away the time, comfortable to wait it all out.
The Darwinist Powers:
Britain is an militaristic lion with a Roman Imperial italic-type helmet. It sits upon a mound of riches gathered from its Empire.
France’s elephant beast (wearing the French kepi they started the war with before adapting their firefighter helmets) is influenced by the Elephantine Collossus built for the Universal Exhibition of 1889 in Paris (later it ended up going to the Moulin Rouge.)
Russia is a huge imperialist bear, rotting and filled with maggots.
Serbia’s imagery is an indicator of the huge amounts of civilian deaths and suffering they’ll find themselves subject to.
Norway and Sweden are both Scandinavian trolls in the style of John Bauer, an inspirational illustrator from the era who produced a lot of phenomenal work during the war.
Portugal is a parrot for the Entente trying to goad a slumbering Spain into the war.
Ireland looks askance to Britain and brandishes a shillelagh. An indicator of their very rough relationship at the time, and of their upcoming involvement with the Central powers.
Italy is a clutch of snakes with intents on the Central powers despite existing agreements. A foreshadowing of their arrangements at the secret 1915 Treaty of London where they were promised land in exchange for involvement. It was heavily influenced by Italian Prime Minister, Antonio Salandra’s open policy of serving Italy’s "divine self-interest."
