Ah well perhaps it will end out even better now that you're not constrained by a deadline!

Please let me know if you want me to move this to the appropriate Physical Models section and I'll be glad to do so.

Thanks guys.  Staying with it.
Getting worst of blemishes off hull.  Had to remove modify replace elevator lift gear which caused messy spots.  Cleaning to point where its "good" not magazine picture "perfect".  Flight deck to be different color than hull.  Is my first 1/700 build.  Took on big complex one.  Others bound to be simpler.  Want to finish then move on to more 1/72 & 1/700 result builds.

For flight deck paint experimenting on under side of hanger deck with Model Master acrylic US Navy blue-gray.  Slightly thinned and straight.  Different brushes and brush motions.  Results not even enough.

Perhaps is rattle can solution.

That's tough about the paint. I'm surprised since Model Masters acrylic is one of the few brands I get consistent results from. Even the oft-lauded Model Color line supposedly made just for brush-painting gave me headaches.

Maybe the paint job can be salvaged by applying a wash to even things out?

Best of luck and thanks for the update.

That's going to have its own gravitational pull! Better keep the smaller ships away, or they'll be sucked in alongsides!

Am painting flight deck with Krylon Satin Rolling Surf.  Partly done.

Not quite right but not way wrong for flight deck.

https://www.lowes.com/pd/Krylon-FUSION-ALL-IN-ONE-Satin-Rolling-Surf-Spray-Paint-and-Primer-In-One-Actual-Net-Contents-12-oz/1000460193

Thatz a valid point about gravitational field.  Must notify nearby boats and ships.

Some progress:  After several back-n-forth sanding-filling-painting steps, far port catapult lines gone and flight deck painted.  With masking removed must say it works - for me anyway.

Next is clear up minor over-under sprays and Exacto knife around elevators for good definition.
Then probably fine brush paint catwalks another color to contrast with flight deck and gray sides.  Navy blue-gray comes to mind.

It's great to hear you're back at work on the mega-carrier and I think the choice of Navy blue-gray is an excellent one!

Many thanks for the update.

Got back to Mega-carrier build.  Doing flight deck before mounting guns.  Am halfwayish done on flight deck.  Pictures show colors brighter/lighter/thinner than just looking at it.  Deck is darker than in pictures.  Focus could be better.  Will try different camera techniques next time.  Island is un finished and un painted sitting there for basic look.  Is three parts and funnel happens to be turned backwards.  Two small planes are Corsairs.
Plenty table clutter chaos goes with build.

Given the size of the ship I wonder if the catapults are too long.

Maybe they don't need to provide as much acceleration?

It looks great, so far!

Mayhaps they are launching Republic designed fighters?  They have a reputation for building heavy aircraft that need lots of runway on land.

Thanks guys.  Is rewarding to have carrier take on color.  No more all gray look.  Next to do is safety lines around elevators.

Bow catapults are 583 ft.  Port catapult is 700 ft.  Acceleration rate is less than on current carriers.  Best for bombers and C-47 originally not designed for catapult launches.  Plus they require less air speed to fly than modern jets and add in wind over deck air speed the catapult launch stress on air frames is within tolerances.  That'z what I been lead to understand.  Though loaded B-29s must use port catapult.

B-29s taking off from an aircraft carrier is an impressive mental image in its own right! 8)

I probably would have gone with a darker blue but she's looking pretty awe inspiring, none-the-less!

Built B-29 to see if can get to sit on nose wheel.   Part of nail in front half of fuselage, moved main gear rearward 1+mm, it worked.   OOB landing gear is impossible micro to work with so used .75mm rod.
Props, paint, decals still to do.

WIP pictures.

Taking picture exposes things to address.   Railings need more paint, changing 20mm gun trays to three each and add contrast.   And misc....

Both island parts have basic gray that matches hull painted.   See approximant quick picture taking placement on deck for more impression of carrier look.

Wow that looks like a million bucks!

The markings are excellent, especially the warning areas which to me are just superb and really give it that extra bit of panache`!

I like the DC-3 parked there for a bit of COD.

It's super to see an update from your shipyard on this Sunday!

Working on nitty details of decks & railings.  Numerous oopses to correct.
