Watch this Space/Red Shado
« on: February 11, 2014, 06:53:23 AM »
...see what I did there? ( MWAHAhahaha!)

Sorry, couldn't resist. Photos of a box of parts and further ruminations in a few hours....

In between then and now, I've agreed to help out a friend by jumping into a role in a play that opens this Friday.
Hopefully, I'll still have some hours on the weekend, but its rehersals the rest of the week for me - sorry for the
(temporary) false alarm.

The Soviet  Union was a little late going against the alien menace, but came in with a vengence.
The Grom carried a single modified SLBM (SS - Something or other ) on an extended Soyuz
capsule platform.

A pile of parts, from the Airfix Vostok, Monogram US-USSR Missile set,Glencoe Obs.
satellite, and fishing bobbers, and a quandry. Spherical tanks from the bobbs, or long
tanks? More missiles(smaller)Gun? Input, Comrades!

The Convair tanks will have to wait for something - I decided to go with sphericals. Anyway, some progress.
 Basic assembly:

And a bit of primer, feet, and more struts, which still need a bit of trim and primer. Colors will probably be
 fairly close to standard.

Although the Soviet Union was a bit miffed at being left out of the initial planning for the Alien Defense
Organization, it was the discovery that SHADO was arming its Lunar interceptors withnuclear missiles
that really had the Russians seeing red...The dramatic public failures of the N-1 series did cover well for
the quiet establishment of Red Luna in the late 1960's. And since we were already tossing atomic weapons
around past the Lunar orbit, well...

Kool stuff !  I really like it !   I have that very Glencoe kit myself and have been trying to figure out what to do with it. I just. wish they had released the other kits in the series. Way back when, I got all but one of them for my birthday and they were new ...   I just wish I could get them now without having to sell a kidney. Can't wait to see how you use that kit. This build is looking outstanding. I am anxiously waiting to see more.
I may be old but I'm not dead ... yet anyway ... !!!    And NO I did not know Richard III !!!!!!

Wow, that looks just so.......Russian! Very cool. As the others have said before me, you certainly have a talent for putting together something from nothing. Look forward to seeing what else you create'

Cool.  :)

So do we assume that the Sov-hotties at their control would have red rather
than purple hair?

Craig,
It definitely looks Russian! It may not fit with the "UFO"/"Space:1999" style, but definitely would with "Men into Space"*.

What did you make the foot pads out of?

Thanks, Frank! Yeah, it doesn't really have that 'Andersonevich' look to it - on reflection, I should have placed the missile a bit further forward, but there it is. The footpads are the baseplates from the Vostok's strap-on
boosters, topped with road wheels from a Hasegawa Panther. The struts just behind the pads are the wires
from the fishning bobbers that formed the external tanks.

It doesn't look that unlikely if you compare it to Mike Trim's original Interceptor
concept, which I personally think is far cooler than the one used in the show.
