N.A. P-51D Sorta Stang Revell H-47 1975
« on: November 23, 2017, 01:40:15 PM »
thought I'd better post something ;)
Finished a few days ago after an 11 month build started on 28Dec2016 and finished, finally 19Nov2017. :o

Revell 1/72 scale North American P-51D Mustang kit No. H-47 from 1975. This is actually the third time I've built this kit, but the first two were the original red/silver Revell H-619 from 1963!!🤓

Because of how bad the kit is I decided it's really a serious WHIFF and started calling it the "Sorta Stang", I know there's a back story there but I'm really too tired. . . . .

North American P-51D-5NA Mustang Sno. 4413571 WR-X "Texas Terror IV" of the 354th FS, 355th FG, Steeple Morden England, 1944 - 1945. As produced the kit represents the mount of Maj. L.G. Mendenhall who was rotated home to the US after completing his tour in this aircraft. Sno. 4413571 was lost along with it's new pilot a few months later when it ditched in the Channel after battle damage.

It's well built and nicely weathered, even though you're right: it barely looks like a Mustang.

Even I, being far from expert on aircraft, can see that this is not a Mustang. In fact my eyes actually went blurry as my brain tried to sort out the image it was receiving. :-\

There's so-o much wrong with this kit it's almost funny! ;)

Well done, mate!

And HAPPY 55TH BIRTHDAY!!!

I'm not only impressed by the incredible build quality but also your amazing time-travelling ability in starting this model a month in the future and finishing it now.

Outstanding work!

Psst! Brian! I noticed; but we've been mates for 35 years (almost 36) & I've taken the "P" a few times over the years, so I thought I wouldn't mention it on his birthday. ;)

You're welcome! :D

Reality didn't come into it! It totally messed with my perception of the space-time continuum across the entire multiverse. There are ripples, you know; & not even Sheldon knows what the consequences of that will be! :o

I just couldn't get my around to this being the Old Revell 'Stang. Sits in the dark of my shelf not looking anything like this excellent built scribed (it seems) painted and weathered model.

Great job on your Sorta Stang, perhaps the greatest example of "silk purse from sow's ear".  8)  These old kits are just what-ifs straight from the box, and I  really like yours.

Best regards,
Kem

55? Finally someone I can call "old". By a whopping five years.

Now to yell at those kids to get the heck off my lawn,

P.S. It truly is an outstanding model. The weathering of the natural metal and the paint chipping around the anti-glare panel are exquisite. I can think of no better way to celebrate another cycle around the sun than to showcase such talent and skill! Bravo!

I'm still older than FAAMAN, by 4 months & 16 days; ratio of gap-to-age is getting smaller every year, though! ;)
