Santa's new sleigh @ 22.5ish (G) scale + scratchbuild WIP
« on: September 24, 2016, 10:12:09 PM »
H all,
newbie here so just making myself known and showing the new direction my modelling is taking me  :o.
Just trying to have some fun modelling again after being bogged down after becoming AR (anally retentive) on details etc.etc.
Enough chit-chat  :)) I know you lot only look at the photo's  :):

and continuing on:

little bit more progress (although heading to the bin  :()

Feel free to jump in with CC/thoughts/suggestions/insults anything goes here  :)), I don't bite (unless provoked), and always like CC - good to see things from someone else's perspective  :).
Cheers for looking in.
No. I didn't lose my mind. It got scared and ran away.

I have a faint suspicion that you might not be totally new to modelling ...  ???

It is refreshing to see somebody working with materials other than totally synthetic or semi-synthetic organic compounds.

"Impressive build" is possibly an understatement, even at this early stage, but Consider it said, anyway! :icon_surprised:

I get a 'Jules Verne meets Steam Punk' feeling from this.  Not that it is a bad thing mind you but just a first impression and it looks quite different from the accepted mode of transport for that big guy in the red suit.

Very bold!! No criticisms from me, I wouldn't even know where to start with this subject!

Very cool

Having done several (many?) modes of transport for Big Red One, I have to say this is the coolest one I've seen!

Nice job on the spiling of those planks.  :)

Hell, great job all round.

I have been known to dabble in the ship building area once in a while  :)).

Just pondering if the central section is too thick  :-\, time to mock-up a slightly thinner one for comparison.

Cheers for stopping by for looksie's  ;).

Depends on how much fettling you have to do to make the shape of the band & how many pieces you want to make it from.

My pleasure! :D

Sweeeeeeeet!  I'm no expert bt, shouldn't the dilythium crystal chamber be bigger, and the plasm manifold relays be reinforced?
Or am I thinking of something else?

Luv it.  ;)
If I don't plan it, it can't go wrong!

If it's great, I did it. If it's naff, I found it.

Cheers for the input guy's.
Thought I'd spend some quality time with this project today.
Finally got around to finishing the upper sections planking  :-[, thankfully the brass stringers will hide the rough areas  ;).
Time to work on the centre section - !st was too thick (10.75mm) as opposed to the new one @ 8.75mm  :)
Just did a quick mock-up to help visualise how best to approach the sled area, trying to avoid any financial expenditure on this project so might have to use plastic instead of brass as stocks are getting low  :icon_surprised:  .

Feel free to poke a stick at this  :D

Much appreciated for those kind words  :).
I just prefer to use old school methods to keep them alive and show folks it ain't that difficult.
I seem to have misplaced the coping saw so the centre section still hasn't been shaped  >:D.
Have made a couple of jigs so I can bend all the plastic rods to the same shape.
Progress update soon .......
