Kitty Hawk

Apparently there's a new company by the name of Kitty Hawk. Their first kit will be a 1/48 F-94C Starfire!  :icon_surprised: LINK!

Interesting.  I am tempted to do a carrier based version.

Received my pair of these kits yesterday.  Can take pics of the parts if anyone wants.  In the box, the kit looks fantastic.  Some of the parts are so thinly molded they are actually translucent.  Even comes with three little plated ball bearings for noseweight.

Problem:
One kit has a decal sheet with a very large "X" written over all the markings in ballpoint pen
The other kit has a decal that looks like someone rolled very heavy gear-wheels all over it.

I've written to the mfg, requesting two replacement decal sheets and will let you know if I get a response.

Thanks mate.  Let us know how you go.  I have been thinking of getting one of these kits myself.

Not that I am overly enamored with the whole F-35 JSF thing but I am looking forward to seeing the kit on the shelf.  I will definitely inform my LHS about it and let them know I want at least a quartet of the things but I suppose I should curb my enthusiasm until after I see what the MSRP is going to be on the kit.

Now the question is will they follow through with the F-35A and F-35C?

Well, it'll have to be better than the old Panda kit. I'd prefer an A or C over a B anyday however.

It definitely looks the part and I can say that the portions I worked on look to be accurately done, though I'll need further data to say for certain (some panels are solid on the early, flight dynamics, EMD aircraft and transparent on later aircrafy with full mission equipment.
PS.  Even though I've been away from it for 4 years, I can still point out what a lot of the panels are for special equipment.  'Till be interesting to see if they include an optional deployed refueling probe.  Given the similarities between the different variants, I do hope they do all three.

Here's hoping there'll be an A in 1/72 soonish. I'll need one for my RW build set, even if I'm not so keen on it! (I'm not keen on the Supersonic Tinkertoy, but I've got one in the stash for a CF build anyways...)

Interesting.  I am tempted to do a carrier based version.
Consider crossing it with a T2V-1 "Seastar" for that (you'll need to scratchbuild the Seastar bits as I know of only one vacform kit of that and it was produced years ago).  Also, take a look at the old Aerofax Minigraph on the F-94 for some ideas.

Lockheed were one step ahead of you with their CL-352 which was an all-weather fighter interceptor version of the T2V Seastar. It added an APQ-50 radar FCS and either two Sparrows or two Sidewinders with two 19 cell rocket pods (2.75”). By using the lightweight airframe and the boundary control layer wing system this Seastar could be operated from US Navy anti-submarine aircraft carriers (CVS) and presumably ex RN light fleet carriers. Engine options included the original J33 or the lighter and more powerful J54. Span: 13.08m (42’11”), length 12.17m (39’11”), wing area 21.63 sq m (232.8 sqf), loaded weight 9,299 kg (20,500 lbs), max speed 888 kph at 1,525 m (493 knots at 5,000’), initial rate of climb 25.4 mps (5,000’ per min), combat range 935 km (520 NM), max range 1,730 km (960 NM). With the J54 loaded weight was reduced to 8,899 kg (19,620 lbs), max speed boosted to 917 kph (509 knots) and range by 75%. Unfortunately it lost out to the cheaper (surprise!) but zippier A4D Skyhawk for the CVS defensive fighter role. Which is a shame because the Seastar would have looked awesome in RAN service from HMAS Melbourne!

Looking at the link you posted, and specifically the decal sheet, they obviously plan to release an A model in the future (though one could easily modify the B) as well as some possibly (for now at least) whiffs.  Also makes doing my planned RAN FAA B model so much easier!

Actually, no, modifying the "B" to an "A" would be a pain, because in addition to recontouring the upper surface, you'd need to form a new canopy.  The "A" and "C" share one, the "B" has a different and shorter one.  In order to use the same mechanism for all three, you get that forward hinged canopy, despite the problems it causes in the forward equipment bays.  I should note that I was on the design team for that area and I'm quite familiar with the pain and complications that mechanism caused us,

True.  Either way, from the decal range, me thinks an A isn't far off anyway.
