This originally started as a What If IDF M40 Big Shot! The AFV Club was nothing but a big PITA! I finally hit the "three strikes and you are out" point while attempting to assemble the moveable rear firing platform and into the garbage it went. Having the M12 in the stash, I looked it over and decided with that and the Academy M51, I could still accomplish the vehicle with these two kits.

Feel the rage at AFV Club kits too !! :icon_twisted: and have been considering this same conversion also !
I would use the AFV Club kit for parts but can't justify the price at present.
-
The price was never an issue. I had the AFV Club kit and was going to add parts from a Dragon M50 or M51 and call it good! However, there were so many pieces that needed to be fixed from taking them off the sprues that it just kept getting worse and worse! The directions were so un- understandable that I ended up putting the cross member supports for the firing platform in wrong and this would not allow the extended platform to tuck up inside it. That was the third strike and away it went! The sad part of using the M12 is that there is really no history on them. Of the 100, all but one was scrapped! Not even sold to other countries or anything.
-
Well that's the beauty of Whiffjitsu: change the history so there were another 100 built to keep the factory busy due to a delay in M40 production (or something), they were only used for training, then put into storage, then sold for "scrap", then mysteriously reappeared in Israel.
Welcome, by the way. :)
-
Thanks for the welcome. That was why the M40 was a better option. Enough were made and given to France and Britain that it was possible to have had them end up in Israeli hands.

Looking fwd to seeing this one progress Mark !!!

With the NOPMS show this last weekend, not much done. I'll try and remember to snap some pics this evening. Got the ramp mounted and a few more items needed to be added to start firing paint.

I'd try to shoe-horn in more road wheels if I was you...
All kidding aside, you've done a magnificent job on the chassis. I don't think I've ever seen one cleaner.
Mine would have glue blobs and fingerprints all over it. I usually fib and say it's zimmerit.
Looking forward to more,
Brian da Basher

Brian,
Thanks! The White Tube will have a Roadwheel attached in the end! Got the other side stuff mounted last night.

Nicely done, pretty neat how the IDF look comes together so fast with the characteristic stowage boxes and colour 8)

Nice work Mark. Not overloaded with gear so you can see all of the major features is always a plus.
-
Excellent job-well done! :)
-
This looks really nice! Need more tracky things around here.
-
Thanks guys! I was really happy with the way this turned out and much easier than using the AFV Club kit. I still want to do one but it can wait for a few now.
-
Nice work.

Have just managed to catch up with the various posts on the site. Nice work Mark and a great finish - the IDF is always a great source for very believable whiffs.
Looking forward to seeing more of your builds. Oh and welcome to the team. :)

Wow! Sweet! 8)
