Title: RoT Navy Attack Plane
Post by: sotoolslinger on November 10, 2012, 10:38:52 PM
So here's my first entry for this GB :o Basically it is my long abandoned Hellfighter. The idea started quite a while back. I had originally gotten the Helldiver to do a follow up to my twin engined Avenger using F-7 Tigercat engines. At the time I was also working on the Improved Brewster Buffalo and it came with 2 canopies. The rear half of the Buff canopy meshed perfectly with the front section of the Helldiver's windscreen so my weird mind immediately jumped from twin engined to single place fighter ::) :-\
Here is how I left her better than a year ago.

She has two new tailplanes laying next to her cause the whiff enabler Raafif said my tail was somewhat lacking

And suggested a V tail >:D Of course it needs a frikken V tail... thanks for making me tear my almost finished model apart Raafif ;) ;D

Crazy how the V-tail changes the whole look of this beast.  And you pull off such surgery so easily.

Thanks Bubba :-* If you got enough saws , grinders and putty you can make anything look like anything else :D ;D

Ironically, this would probably be a good setup for a tail gunner's field of fire!   ;D

Cheers,

Logan

Between Raafif and Logan Hartke, I think Ron will be lucky to come out of this one sane...or at least as sane as he went in... ;D

I did a few changes though ;) >:D
First , after PSR she needed more putty ::)

And 2 something has been naggin at me about the front end also. This is supposed to be powered by a 21 cylinder 3 row radial and I did not make the cowl any longer ( + I can't resist detail parts) so I made up and cut in some extra vent/ radiator panels to cool that last row.
Since I busted off two machine guns in the process I also added reinforcements around the gun barrels.

now you need to add a slightly recessed turbo to the port side & inverted Corsair main wings ;D

OK, so the Corsair wings is going too far ???

Oh dear, the police tell me it IS a crime to do that ! :-[

Love everything you are doing with it  8)
Looks like a mean fast brute for mixing it up with Luft 46 or use in Korea.  :)

Yep, she's a brute! Cool how you can still see the Curtiss in it but, with the V-tail, the Helldiver is pretty much gone  :)

What product-procedure did you use on canopy to cover and then remove after painting to end up with such fine paint and clear areas ?   :)

Thanks all y'all :-* Fins I use a liquid masking agent. I forget the brand but I have Humbrol on the road with me and it works just as well. Several companies make it.

You can also make your own masking agent by combining White Glue and Dishwashing Detergent in equal parts if I remember the formula correctly.

Yowsa that's coming along nicely! That paintwork is truly stunning!

I always feel like a kid playing with toys when I see an incredible project like this.

Outstanding!
