Title: T17E1 Staghound
Post by: Feldmarschall Zod on August 14, 2012, 07:30:54 AM

Right now,the only thing I can come up with is a Mark III whif version. Instead of a 75mm,the 6 Lbr,57mm is used. It would be a good fire support version for a long range desert group in North Africa.

Couple of thoughts.  AA version with twin 50s replaced by 20mm Oerlikon and any mark with turret replaced by M8 GMC with the short 75mm.

Maybe give it an AMX-13 turret, especially the one with SS.11 ATGM launchers.

Since it was used in South Africa, you could give it an Panhard AML/Eland turret with a 90mm or 60mm mortar plus MGs.

Running with the idea of ATGWs, there was also an AML turret with 4 x SS-11 or 2 x SS-12. Alternatively, you could fit the British Ferret turret with an MG plus two Vigilants.

Ontos turret! Let the vehicle live up to its name.

Don't forget that the Staghound had a 'bigger brother', the T17 Deerhound:

Or Swingfires.

Now that is a mean looking vehicle, any one make a kit of it that I could buy and then never build?

I've always loved everything that carries the turret from the M8 HMC.

Better-looking than the Crusader turret.  With QF 75mm.

The Lebanese improved upon the Staghound Mk III concept.

The Lebanese improved upon the Staghound Mk III concept.

"Improved", how?  The Lebanese were using the Staghound not as an armoured car should be used but as basically a wheeled tank.  Once the other militias got some AT weapons, the Staghound suffered.
