Hinamaru Havoc II
« on: February 27, 2012, 12:00:57 AM »

This is the Cockpit for the 1/72 Testors ATB. Not much to see so I didn't really bother going too crazy (test fits revealed you can barely see the seats!) I hit it with black and then tried to go over it softly with brown to create a fade effect. Actually worked ok, just hard to see in the pics (And impossible to see when the model is sealed!)

White on. The Gray circles are Lo-vis Hinamarus. I know that pink is technically the "correct" color in this case but I just thought gray would look better.  ==)

I think it has a perfect WWII look on account of it being so darn rounded all over!

Strangely enough Black, which is normally a forgivable color wasn't working with my airbrush. So I decided to spray paint it, then go over it later with the Airbrush to keep the weathered look consistant. Tamiya Nato Black was a perfect match so I lightened it with a couple white drops. This picture shows it really well!

Big wad of masking tape!

Inspiration.^ As I look it appears I missed a spot I should have painted black! Err! (between to the two finger like patterns in the center) Might be Too late to change it now... still deciding  :icon_ninja:

Most of the Decals have been cooperative but the Meatballs are a disaster. I still havn't decided how to handle it. Should I take them all off and start again? try cutting or sanding them??  :(

been working on the Landing Gear AKA undercarriage in the meantime.

landing gear Still in progress but the Aircraft itself is basically finished.   8) ... still deciding if I want to add that Black portion I missed  :-\

Special thanks to RussC AKA "The Flying Wing King" for the inspiration  ;)

TOTAL BAD ASS!!!!!

Don't worry about the missing black area.  Doesn't need it IMHO.
And love the lo-vis roundels under the wing.  Killer idea and I'm totally stealing it! :icon_ninja:

If the black is gonna nag at you everytime you look at the model go ahead and add it, from my perspective it doesn't need it and if you hadn't mentioned it nobody would have noticed. It looks great either way.  :)

Wow that's killer, Mr Tomcat! I'll echo some of the others and say only go over that black spot if it's bothering you. I think a topcoat will help the cracking decals, but in the shots taken from a little bit back, I can't see any problem with the hinomorus.

What an inspired idea and masterfully executed!

I ended up sanding them down to fix them. Luckily the underside meatballs of the decal sheet were the same size (Minus the white outline) So I just redid those and it did a lot better.

Thank you everyone! Sound advice from all! I am just going to have to think about that black spot. I removed the cockpit masks and was very happy with it. One of those moments where all is right with the model, turned out much better than I would have hoped! So I might just let it go...

The camo was going to be splinter pattern, but I have always like that Aircraft Carrier Camo and suddenly I realized, I will probably never paint another aircraft model so big and flat like a carrier's deck ever again! So I picked the colors and went for it.

That is astounding! Excellent work on the camouflage. The upper hinomaru may have been a pain but they really make it pop! Love the lower lo-vis hinomaru too  :)

Gorgeous work on what I know is something of a bear of a kit.  One little correction though, it's a Revell Kit, Testor's does the actual ATB or B-2A in 1/72.

For backstory, first a name is needed. Usually for bombers, big mighty objects like mountains or rivers. Fujiyama was already taken for a bomber project.

Maybe UNZEN which is a active volcano in the Southern Islands. Longer names of the 2 most active peaks are Unzendake and Fugendake.

  Once again...Great build !

Awesome!

I love how the black camo spots sorta resemble the "rising sun" of the Japanese naval ensign.

If you placed the G4M nose at the head of that design, combined with the wing design there, it would actually look a lot like a Vulcan w/o tail and underwing inlets instead of the leading edge.

Fabulous build.  How is it pannel lines show so well, is a good touch.  What did you do to make it happen?
Can see a tail gun where white cone is.  Like from a B-66 or B-58 or.......  :)
