Title: Yet to be named Project with AS90
Post by: Buzzbomb on October 09, 2016, 02:20:13 PM
I have this so far.. the first few steps of the Trumpeter 1/35 AS-90 SP Gun,

Next is where the creative juices crank up a bit and we get moving, but the thought process at the moment is arounda British Mobile medium SAM Launcher.

Stay tuned

Be watching this! :D

I have an AS90 I want to build as a RAM SPG (so pretty much OoB) but this will help with ideas. :)

thanks guys, but no pressure :o

The basic idea to plastic is taking shape
(http://www.modelblokez.org.au/bthpix/whatif/AFV/AS90/AS90_2.JPG)

Started out thinking of using the missiles off the Trumpy SA-6 Gainful, but then decided.. they look like SA-6 Gainful missiles.
So using things like this for inspiration
(http://www.ausairpower.net/PLA-IADS/HQ-7B-Crotale-TELAR-1S.jpg)
pretty much ended up looking at the canister container, quick reload option, hence the tuby things.

Bit bland but lets see how it pans out

I don't know about bland, all the ribby bits & stuff, besides it's very practical & minimises in-field maintenance issues. :)

Like that internal turret surgery and legit looking launch tubes. :)
Photo shows Russians went for optional white wall tires.  Got plans for white wall road wheels ?

That's the Chinese mate.  The Russians know that keeping white walled tyres clean is a bitch!

Thanks for setting me straight on 21st century markings.
Make sense.  Russians likely learned their keeping white walls clean lesson the hard way during the great war.

They probably stopped using them the same time as the US did....about the same time as fins went out of fashion... ;)

Great job! The color and weathering are very realistic and I love the small details, like the hinges on the launch tubes.

Will the SAMs be Radar guided?  Can we expect to see a Radar Vehicle in the future?

Dang! Beaten to the post - and there was me thinking start early, finish early... It just never seems to work out that way!

Great model, very nice finish and an excellent idea all round.

It is ok, not quite what my minds eye saw, but that does sometime play tricks on me :o

Great looking build. I can't help thinking of it in an SF setting.
