Leopard 1 A5. Here's hoping it's a few leaps beyond the Takom kit.

I wonder if it could be downgraded back to a standard Leopard 1?

And, my god, they expect me to assemble every track link?    :o

Without the additional armour on the turret sides.  ie Leopard 1, as against Leopard 1a5.  This in otherwords this:

versus the 1a5:

There was talk pre Timor and pre Abrams buy of Australia buying surplus Leo 1A5 turrets and retro fitting them to our Leo AS1 as a cheap way to upgrade the fire control and armour.

Instead we purchased ex-Canadian Leopard 1a4 turrets and some hulls.  Indeed, the Leopard on display at Pucka is actually a Canadian hull (easily discerned by the vertical "divisions" in the exhaust louvres on the hull sides.   Ours never had them.

These new turrets were gradually swapped through the AS1 fleet apparently.  Their fire control systems were compatible with the standards AS1 to make training easier.   All or rather obviously nearly all, ended up as either targets or scrap when the AS1 was retired.

I just noticed that Meng state on their packaging a fact that most purchasing agents, & indeed most manufacturers, don't understand; "This is not a toy".

Wouldn't mind the Mk.V & the T-10M would be useful for a sci-fi build.

Some modellers are telling model manufacturers that we don't want vinyl / rubber tires on our kits too .... that would remind the sellers that we build "static scale models" not toys.

You mean to say that you don't play with your models and go "brrmmm, brrrmmmm...."?

Well .... Yes ... Of course ... but ... well ... that's obviously not what I build them for! :-[

for those who want to go "brrmmm, brrrmmmm....", Tamiya is the choice - after releasing the static kit they always seem to then add a motorised version of a new kit.

Yep, and I'm also known to 'go Godzilla' on them after I've tired of their presence.   :icon_twisted: :icon_zombie:  :icon_fsm:
