Doolittle Raid was 19th April 1942. View looking aft from the deck of USS Hornet (CV-8) while en route to the mission’s launching point. USS Gwin (DD-433) is coming alongside, as the USS Nashville (CL-43) steams in the distance. Eight of the mission’s sixteen B-25B bombers are parked within view, as are three of the ship’s SBD scout bombers.

1. Just because carriers had wooden decks does NOT mean they were TAN or Wood grain colored. Post 1940 all the CV deck were painted out in STAINED DECK BLUE heavy weathered . BLUE/ to GRAY-BLUE ..... AND NO yellow marking s on the flight decks ....dark gray to faded white dots and dashes.
