The Day of the Decal

Decades of Decal Decadence Defeated :: Declaring Domination over my Depository

Binders
by Big Gimper, on Flickr

I finally organized my decal stash.

From lose, unorganized chaos to complete binder bondage!  Leather and KY jelly were not required. Just patience and lots of plastic sheet protectors.

Many thanks goes to the "Ginger-tank-man" who showed me the way.

I am giving up listing them. They all end up on the shelf of procrastination anyways.

Indeed!!  It's also inspiration given the number of decals I have.

Correct. Except for Canadian sheets.  They generally sell out quickly so I always grab a spare or 2 depending on the subject.

As Gingie said, I was getting into duplicates. Also I was using new sheets when I should have been checking/using my partial/loose sheets. Now I can minimize decal sheet waste / maximize usage.

The cost was 4 new 1 1/2" binders @ $4/each and a $6 box of 225 Sheet Protectors from Costco.

From chaos to complete organization.  Commend you on transition.
I took first step from complete decal chaos to lesser chaos.  Helps.  Does not approach your level of refinement.

Send your decals to Carl so he can be inundated in cataloging for the next ten years :)

Ah, to be so organised! :-*

I haven't got a clue about my stash, let-alone my decals! :o

I was like you Guy, I had started a spread sheet of the physical models, built or unbuilt. But somehow all the lines got mixed up. I only spotted it because I was reading an entry to which I knew wasn't what it was which made me look through the rest of it and saw a complete FU!

So over the last couple of months I've been going through the stash boxes, discovering that to save space for the house move I had placed small boxes/packets into bigger boxes. It was like -- WTF! when did I buy that kit and then only to find out I had bought the same kit either earlier or later, so now I had two ---

The physical kits have mostly been counted and a rough list made, now I've got to do the same to the accessories and decals stashes. While sorting out the kits I found I had placed decal sheets inside some boxes, obviously to build it a certain way but I've got a sheet for a CH-146 which had 'custom' added to the title. Looking at the sheet it has been printed for a desert scheme, it was another WTF moment, can't remember why I had asked CanMilAir to do it like that ---

I'm too scared to do that, in case Mrs Wombat gets a clear idea of just how many kits I've got! :o

Off topic but kinda related.

Am in thick of big time model room clean-up and reorganization.  Over due for at least a decade.  When done can start Scaleorama GB.  One subject of many is paints.  Recently got 1000ish bottles & rattle cans from an estate added to another 1000ish already here.  Checked every bottle & can and tossed out the bad ones.  Hours of that did make total bit more manageable.  About 1/3 - 1/4 tossed out.
One standout bottle is this vintage Testors.  Know to be '50s vintage.  Believe phased out in early '60s.  Late '50s ?   Cut costs not printing multi color labels.
In like new condition.  Is Smithsonian quality item.
Figure some of you can relate to this vintage Testors bottle.  see attached ---

That's some stash of decals, nicely sorted out too  8) Thanks for sharing  8)
Got my decal stash in clear snap bags by countries military and service with a bag just for civvie decals. ;)
Unfortunately cleaning out the garage the other weekend to eliminate clutter alerted my WIFEU to the size of my stash :o ended up having to answer some awkward questions from an incredulous WIFEU like "do you really need that many Skyhawks???", not exactly her wording but close enough ;D obviously the answer to the question was "yes!!", you can never really have enough 1/72 and 1/32 A-4s, ;) ;)

Pulled a couple binders out of the attic yesterday and found a package of 60 document protectors. I went to work on the decal stash and got it all organized into one large binder. Thanks BG for the idea and motivation! Even better because I had all the supplies on hand.
