My Minicraft 1/144 P-47 has a decal option for an all black RAF example with the red lighting bolt from that Spitfire above but I can't find a real example anywhere.  Perfect whiff fodder though  ;D

Seeing that airliner reminded me of another black plane; the CIA modified P-3 Orions from the 1960's.  All black, no markings, clipped props, IR shrouded exhausts, porcupines of a antennae, and to top it all off, REARWARD firing AIM-9s!  Can't find a photo online but Squadron's P-3 In Action has a photo of one of them.  Can I post a scan of said photo?

Permission received, thanks man!

Enjoy guys  8)

Scan is copyright Squadron P-3 Orion In Action p.12

So how about some CIA birds for the build gents?

Not an airplane, but black and still impressive (link because it's a big picture):

How would you get that type of sheen on a model?

What was the point of clipping the props?

No idea Rick.  I haven't been able to find any other info then that one photo and what it says in the book.  The caption tells more than the text does.

I think you will find that the clipped propellers were so as to reduce noise.

I get impression from top view that cut off B-52 tail sections could be major part (add some kinda nose) of a tailless fighter.

Its the two black aircraft in the bottom left hand corner that got my attention. Hmmm... I haven't seen anything like those before except on an F-19 boxtop.

That was a good selling kit (not Monogram F-19) in Palmdale area, home of Skunk Works.
