Title: 3D printed Venus of Brassempouy
Post by: Frank3k on March 12, 2018, 08:00:20 AM
This is a 1:1 scale  replica of the Venus of Brassempouy (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venus_of_Brassempouy), which is a small ivory head of a woman from about 25,000 years ago.

I wanted to print a model of the Venus of Willendorf (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venus_of_Willendorf) and I found a 1:1 copy looking through the scanned artwork at Scan the World (https://www.myminifactory.com/scantheworld/).
This is a fairly big figure that would take a while to print, so I decided to try making a smaller replica first. I found a 1:1 replica of the Venus of Brassempouy at Thingieverse (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2440449) that was fairly accurate and wouldn't take long to print.

Here is the result after taking the supports off. It was printed in ABS at 0.15mm layer height:

It's hard to see the details and layering on a white ABS model, even after shining light through it:

Here it is after a quick paint job. It looks pretty good from a distance!

I like the idea of printing a 25000 year old sculpture on a modern 3D printer. I wonder what our AI descendants will be doing in another 25000 years...

That's great Frank!

I really like your take on "old meets new"

Great stuff!

Thanks! It's not really a "model", but it didn't take long to print and paint. It will be more acceptable on my desk at work than this:

Which is what I originally wanted to print. I don't want a trip to HR....

Ahh the slow shuffle off to HR.

Thanks for bringing back the memories, Frank!

You should be more concerned about the 13 guys that show up in the parking lot to have a discussion with you.

One of 'her' ancestors descendants has been posting on Craig's List in the personals section.  Something about must like SSBBW...

err, shouldn't that be "decendants", not "ancestors"?

Nifty subject - I've known about the Willendorf Venus for ages, but the other is new to me. I think there was
a gashapon figure of the WV some time back, but I won't swear to it. How big is the Willendorf figure? Seems
like it would be a good addition to your shop.

The Willendorf figure is about 4"/11 cm tall.

I can imagine relatively fit, well fed - but not plump - early humans looking at something like the Willendorf as an "inspirational" shape - the 1%ers of their age - she obviously didn't have to work hard for her food.

Or, it could have just been a super-deformed model of the girl-next-cave...

I hate it when you guys bring up my old girlfriends. It's been over between us for years now I tell you!
