Title: Swords into ploughshares

Swords into ploughshares or what to do with an M113 as evidenced by the images attached to this topic on Missing Lynx: Log Skidder based on the FMC M113 APC (http://www.network54.com/Forum/47209/thread/1324372832/A+Very+Different+Civilian+M113+model+Conversion)

And whilst this one might not serve any useful purpose, it does have a funky paint scheme:

After WWII many armoured vehicles got sold off as scrap and got reused for many things.  Dowunder they often got used for "bush bashing" - clearing scrub to make farmland.  I remember many decades ago as a kid going to visit my relatives in the Wheatbelt in Western Australia, to discover one of their neighbours had an M3 Stuart Hull sitting in their shed.  I've often wondered if it would be worth going back to find out what happened to it (and if it would be worth recovering).

I've also often driven through the country town of Murraylands in far NW Victoria.  Just off the highway is a scrap yard which is visible from the highway.  In it are nearly a dozen Mathilda and M3 Medium hulls.  None are, I've been advised by friends in the military Museums circuit worth recovering, as they're pretty well had it and lack all mechanical internals (and apparently :icon_alabanza: they've checked them out).  However, it does break the heart to see them slowly rusting away.

I remember reading about this years ago

It was converted into a drilling rig

just love it when my photos pop up again (that Panther crane originally posted on Missing Lynx c.1997) ;)

Here's another previously unpublished one from a friend - DragonWagon soft-cab used as a logging rigger.

Odd, it appears to be arranged backwards.

The pests in the back paddock are quite handful this year…might also need to call up a 'crop duster' if they get much worse…

Thread Revival:

Having recently joined the forum, I was trolling and came across this thread.  If you're interested in the Madill 071 Tower Yarder, I have tons of material including the sales brochure, operator's manual, production list (about 25 built),and hundreds of photos.  I'm (slowly...very slowly) building one in 1/35 on a Tasca hull.  It's not for the faint of heart, the amount of scratchbuilding required is totally insane and you'll spend days just working out how you want to divide up subassemblies to work on them.  Also take note of the fact that no two of these rigs was quite the same; several options were available from the factory and many more piled up as these machines got older and passed from one operator to another.

There were the M113 crew escape vehicles NASA used for the STS.

Now they are looking at MRAPs.

Hey Marderman, are those firefighting apparatus theoretical or actual?  Either way they're pretty cool.  There's a T-55 down at the George Patton Museum outside of Palm Springs that was converted into a fire rig; I've got a bunch of photos that are all too large to post here.  Happy to share, just PM me here or send me an email (gtbuechler(at)hotmail.com).

I place my photos on flikr. From there I can choose what size to link to this site. Works better than photobucket which I used to use.
I'd love to see what you have.

hello beekster,
of any vehicle I have an original photo. But the red ones are only testvehicles and not in service. And the yellow M6 was on the amsterdamer airport (shiphol, I think).

The MRAP vehicles look interesting. Something in the article about adding a ramp on the back.
