Actually a
pre-Battle concept powered by Fairey P.12
Prince engines, the Air Ministry
didn't want a twin so Lobelle redrew it with a single P.12. The Ministry refused to use the P.12
because in their minds Fairey wasn't an
established engine manufacturer. Code for them
still being pissed off about Fairey using the Curtiss D-12 in their
Fox light bomber private
venture which had trounced the majority of RAF bombers and fighters in service at the time.
Lobelle replaced the P.12 with the Merlin I and thus the Battle was born.
