Folks,

Don't forget to get your ideas in.  I will be using this thread as the generator of the list of options for the first GB Poll.  The poll will be put up this weekend.

Regards,

Greg

In line with the anything goes idea, just call it ''Strut Your Stuff, the introductory Group Build".

That way, participation can be maximized and we can sample the momentum of the group.

Too late for the current poll, but I'll  throw this out there anyway- "Cranky" The Gull wing planform was popular once upon a time,
but what if suppose it had become ubiquitous? Gull winged Ford Tri-motors to Gull winged 747s...or conversely, suppose it
had  been completely ignored? Straight winged Stukas and Corsairs...

Like post war air races (to today) feature piston engine fighters.
A group build could be planes for the four piston engined class consisting of former airliners and bombers.

So what is being said is something along the line of hanging a pair of 1/48 Griffon engines on the front of the booms of a 1/72 C-119, put some kind of streamlined pod in the center for a prone-type pilot and chop-n-channel & scale-o-rama the Boxcar into the Beast of Barstow?   Heh!    :icon_swat: :icon_swat: :icon_swat:

How about a "Show us your uglies" GB where you either post models (of all forms) that you either consider ugly by design or execution.  Perfection certainly not required here.

Reposting this to where I should have posted in first place.

Suggestion for empty slot.
Builders pick of airplane, ship, tank/vehicle that looks to be functional (airworthy, seaworthy, mobile on land, etc) but is of definitely less than a desirable configuration to spend defense dollars on and go to war with.  Is armed, can fight, but we really should have got something more desirable for our defense dollars.
Wild ass ideas:  Forrestal carrier w/o catapults (cheaper) so operates mix of prop fighters (Tigercat, Bearcat, Corsair), Appache/Cobra/other helicopters, Harriers, V-22, O-2, OV-10, A-1.....    might have a few 40mm quad guns removed from scrapped WW2 cruiser; were already paid for and they can shoot.
SAC B-25 carries one half recessed ALCM and equipped for IFR.  Plus under wing jet pods???
F-15 with OV-10 engine added to each wing for shorter takeoff.
M-48/60/M1 tank hull with turret mounting two 75/76mm type Sherman tank guns and 37mm turret on top from Grant or Stuart tank.
Things that can go to war but are likely to result congressional hearings before they have to.
There would be a media feeding frenzy and Pentagon personnel changes.

US Navy Aviation celebrated its Centenary last year. This year (22 May, to be exact) it's the USMC Aviation's turn. How about a GB included any and all Marine Crops flying whiffs? Maybe even include USN aviation as well.

One day as I was going about organizing the what-if related stuff I did, I began reminiscing the good old times of "military simulation" videogaming.

You know, Falcon 3.0 and 4.0 and the likes.  Back then people didn't have all those companies licensing their products for games because those airplanes, tanks, even ships simulated either were still top-secret or did not exist in the first place.  So people took whatever info and/or even rumours available and then, within those info and/or rumours, let their imaginations fly.

After reminiscing what I did have, I propose...... "Alter-Ego" GB.

"Alter-Ego"...... as in taking your favourite aircraft/tank/ship from your favourite videogame (I talked about simulation, but hey, nothing against the likes of Ace Combat, Airforce Delta, HAWX, or Lethal Skies), taking your favourite ordnance configuration- F-117 with AIM-9Ms and employed as a night fighter of sort, navalized F-22 with laser-guided AGM-65s, Su-27 with a full-wing load of R-33s, F-15C armed with AIM-54s, militarized X-32...... ideally one that you use/see in the games but never saw in real life, but ultimately anything goes.

Like your avatar or even how you would have liked your avatar to look like (if not really the same as those allowed by the games, for example, in terms of camo schemes and/or nose and tail arts) in your favourite game.

Like colouring coops213's navalized F-16 in Ace Combat 2 Scarface Squadron camo scheme in the first attachment.  Or this pre-MLU F-16A in the second attachment armed with AMRAAMs (reminds me of Falcon 3.0).

Two ideas for a GB

1. Pist'n Broke GB. Designs created in a drunken fit by chief designers down on their cash and luck. These would be builds that no-one in their right mind would actually make unless they were tanked and skint; i.e. Handley Page in 1939 mating the wings of an 0/400, the fuselage of a Hampden, 4 pusher RR Merlins and underwing stowage for 6 torpedoes in desperate attempt to fill an Air Ministry request for a martime patrol aircraft. Or Ferrari fitting a Fiat 500 body on a chopped P40 chassis and drive train with '50s style chrome wings and trim to capture the US market.

2. Dyslexic GB or Its all Base over Apex GB. Builds that are made where "someone" stuffs up a dimension, 3 view drawing or layout. Like putting the wings on a 747 on upside down, so you get 4 upper surface blowing engines. Or Kamov sticking the rotors on the bottom of the chopper.

Cheers

Andrew
Were going to be finished in 2020 BEFORE I start any da*!#d new ones - Maybe When Hell Freezes Over - again? - CF-IDS Wolverine; Douglas Mawson; Bubba Wants a Fishin' Rig; NA F-100

Against the Wall - Maton Dreadnought; Fender Telecaster; Epiphone Les Paul Stud

That is similar to what is suggested in reply #87.
Having an airworthy/functional bash but obviously of less than an optimum design.

I've sometimes wondered about a GB or Theme Build where the idea is to send an old build to another member, who then restores/rebuilds/mods it into something new.

Kind of a "Retasking GB"?

That may have interesting effect with profilers: if we send each other a unfinished profile file, we may have learn much about other technics, and other "little secrets". For mutual improvment, of course!

Ya know - with Slowy jet we have an example of my GB suggestion #87 and #92.  Congressional hearings and personnel changes in Air Force Procurement Office.  Sure it flies and can hit targets with missiles, bombs, guns......   but, but, but what were they thinking.

Here is a couple ideas.

Desert warfare. All ages, and all categories.

For us land based builders. Change the main gun. The only major mod to the vehicle would be the main gun,and the gun mantlet.
Every time you eat celery,an angel vomits in a gas station bathroom. Tanks rule. I know the load is late, but the voices tell me to pull over and clean the guns.
