Bandai 1/144 gundam
« on: April 21, 2020, 04:36:01 AM »
Hi all well it was supposed to arrive on the 30th, lucky me it arrived early.

What a great kit I've not used one drop of glue the fit it purfect (only downside is the kit has stickers instead of decals). I'm going to depict it rotting in a field I've read these tend not to rust much but I will be adding some.

This will really stretch my skills as my normal rusting techniques are done exclusively with enamels and pastels, obviously I cant use enamels on this plastic so will have to adapt and invent.

I've made a start on the weathering, I really think I will enjoy this first forage into gundam.

Abandoned Gundam? Cool!  :-* This is going to be good!

Why can't you use enamels? Most of the plastic should be regular polystyrene (I think). Is it because of the joints? I recall these are from a more flexible material.
Either way, once you have it primed and/or varnished and they had enough time to dry, shouldn't you be on the safe side?

Oh, and... perhaps this is something for the Sci-Fi GB?  :icon_jedi: :icon_vader:
Cheers,

Apparently the plastic in these kits doesn't get baked (dont know if that's chemical baking or heating some how) if you use enamel type paints on the plastic it  becomes very fragile within minutes.
