Update

I'll be going to the museum here at Hill AFB to see if they got an Eagle.
Hopefully i'll get the project started this week!

My F-15E came today and i've already gotten the plane mostly built. :)

This F-15's gun was moved a bay back and thanks Diamondback for the help.
I took one of the CFT scoops and cut off the mounting and used the scoop itself as a gun fairing.

Here's the fairing in place.

And I layed down plastic card and covered it with putty.

Thanks for looking,
Michael

Off to a good start... scratching the stabilators or modding Quickboost?

Hope to have some pix from my Black Friday parts binge to help you see what some of the aftermarket possibilities are... I'm not really going far on my build until Two Mikes has their seamless intakes ready.

One other thing you should know... almost all F-15 kits are molded with the intakes in 'power off' position--once the engines start, the intakes pivot down to help set up shockwaves to slow the intake air to subsonic, much like the shock cones on the sides of an F-104 or Mirage or the inlet spikes on a Blackbird. Little-known but once noticed stands out like a kick in the balls...

Diamondback = I didn't want to mess with the intakes so I decided to leave them up.
Okay everyone reading this the putty I applied in the last photo was a complete failure because of the plasticard flexing under it.
So I cut strips of more plastic and basically layed it over. I cut it in strips just because it's more forgiving.
Then I applied a thin coat of putty over it and so far it's gotten much better.

Thanks,
Michael

If you haven't installed tailpipes yet, assuming the game bird doesn't have custom exhausts you might look at Aires resin plug-in AB's too. I've been considering the Dream Model etched-brass F-35 low-observavle tailfeathers, but they look like I'd find them more torture devices than modeling accessories... LOL

Well from what I can tell they're either GE motors or Pratts with the "Feathers"
Since it's 3D TVC I looked at the F-16 MATV engine. Which is extremely similar to the animation in the game.
I'd say a Pratt with the feathers is my best bet.

Very good looking bird, Michael.
The canopy lamination looks good, and the shapes you selected/designed for it and the canards are giving this bird a very sleek appearance.

I can't remember if Ace combat's SMT had 2D flat nozzles or 3D ones. I'll check. Anyways it's your version. You like it. I like it.

Meanwhile, let's take a hop together in a flight of fancy: http://beyondthesprues.com/Forum/index.php?topic=795.0

Oh yeah I remember those models!
Nice job on the Delphinus variants!
Here's more progress on my Eagle.
I had to scratchbuild the Feathers for the nozzles.

And here they are painted and test fitted.

And more work on the COFFIN

Thanks,
michael

Ok everyone I decided that i'm just gonna do a single dark blue color with a light gray belly.
Because i've gotten this far and don't wanna screw it up and plus i'm still not good with an airbrush.
I think the darker blue from Japanese F-2 will suffice but if anyone has suggestions please tell me!

Thanks,
Michael

It's a tad darker, but FS15042 or 35042 Dark Sea Blue (gloss/flat versions respectively) is a very attractive bluish-black... I usually use the flat when I'm modeling SR-71's "at-speed," exaggerating the color change just enough to make it visible.

You doing yours gear up or down? I just got my set of G-Factor gear, and now I gotta figure out how to lop it off the sprue... great looking product, but not for a first-time venture into aftermarket without appropriate tools.

You're off to a great start so far! Captures the effect very well.

Thanks for the recommendations!
Mine will be up and i'm looking to build a stand or simply buy one.
Thanks again for the compliments.

Or, if you don't want quite that dark, check out 15044/35044 Insignia Blue. For comparison, if you've seen photos of three-tone blue-over-blue-over-white WWII aircraft, the top blue is 15042 and the insignia roundel is 15044.

I think the FS color Sea blue would be pretty good as well.
They both look good.
It's just the matter of me deciding.

So, are your nozzles going to be "plain" or are they going to have a coating to reduce their radar signature (I doubt anything can reduce the IR signature of a fighter engine in full burner)?  If the later, I'd suggest a gloss metallic black; otherwise, the usual colors would work.

I'll just spray semi gloss coat over the engines

Ah, not some of the "fancier" coatings, then.  Good enough, as they only do a partial job without the shaping of the nozzles.

Yeah plus i'm not that good with putting an interesting sheen on metallic surfaces.

I understand finsrin haha

Before I start painting the plane i'm going to place the necessary strengthening plates where needed.

Mike, one of the tricks I'm using is adding a mix of 20-25% Chrome Silver into the basic color. Thinking, for one of my builds, I'll go 75/25 with Gloss Black for the basic airframe and 80/20 for the tailfeathers.

Albeit it's darker in person just so you know.

Thanks for looking,
