F-16 ? Well thats how it started...
« on: October 02, 2013, 06:25:48 AM »
Well since this whole build is kinda my fault i guessed i better get cutting plastic.. So without further ado we need Whiff-fodder..

Ah perfect... The nasty lil academy kit that preclaims to be a "A" model... When its closer to the prototype...

Pilot looks far happier than i would be... To fit him under the display panel he had to go all Douglas Bader :/

Please note the nose weight that wasnt mentioned in the instructions...

Not bad after a few hours work :)

Now you may notice those wings dont look right for a F-16A... And you'd be right ;)

It was always gonna be a filler project anyway :/

Right orf to bed for now..

Great start my good man and as a track head, I particularly like the Challenger in the background.  ;) :)

We seem to be unanimous on the F-16  being the weapon of choice, although yours is much more ambitious than mine. Nice project! :)

Well ive already done a Hawk, that seemed to spark interest in the idea of a scottish build, buuuut tbf the real reason i picked a F-16 had more to do with having a dodgy academy kit to waste ;)

Colours markings im still deciding but... im thinking similar to early USAF/Middle east colours... i.e dark green grey but with a orangy brown (Thinking the heather) but i might go for more of a luftwaffesque mottle/squiggle... Yeah still thinking ;)

Of course you are the one that will decide, Chris, while... is this a F-16 for action abroad? For defense of the homeland, maybe colours of grass and whiskey would fit better ;)

Don't forget that Scotland is a relatively small piece of land predominantly surrounded by sea.  Therefore, defence of the homeland is likely to take place over open water - North Sea, Irish Sea or Atlantic Ocean.

Maybe because of the risk of being lost in the North Sea, coupled with the fact that Scotland probably doesn't really face too many immediate direct threats, their platforms are given high Viz' schemes or at least bright Dayglo panels (maybe even a touch of tartan?)?

How about Israeli-style triangles? ;)

Or you could go X's (wrong colour but referencing the Cross of St Andrew on the National Flag)?

You could almost dispense with the tail and this thing would be a wicked looking flying wing :)

Yes they are a bit notorious like that... But yeah the inspiration was the F-16XL and F-16IN concepts :)

New problem the canopy wont fit over the pilot... and he wont come out... Hmm...

So sorry for the lack of updates but i had a few problems.. After pulling the pilot out with pliers and rebuilding the cockpit the canopy finally fit... I could get spraying some colours... But guess what... It didnt go well..

So after some glaring at it for a few days and not a little swearing it was sanded back, reprimered, and i tried again... Now it looks like this :)

Finally we're getting somewhere :)

Nice. I've been thinking of doing this variant but haven't gotten to it. I like the paint scheme.
