Trumpeter 1/72 F-107A. Artic cold weather test aircraft.
« on: January 26, 2014, 12:33:43 PM »
This build is the result of wanting something different from the prototype markings. This is a service test bird engaged in cold weather testing in Alaska. Construction is OOB except the pitot tube made from a drafting pin. Kit decals are used. The paint is hand-brushed Testors 31181 Aluminum, Model Master Fluorescent Red over Floquil Reefer White primer. The tailcone and panel over the tailpipe is Testors #1146 Silver. I used brushed-on Vallejo Satin to take the shine off of the decals and blend them into the Red. I am pleased with the results.

That looks really good. Getting florescent orange  paint to look nice and even is tough, even when airbrushed; it looks perfect on your build.
Have you tried brushing the Testors metalizer paints? Even though they say they're only for airbrush, they work beautifully when brushed and you can get a variety of panel effects with a single color and polishing certain panels.

Thanks or the kind words.

Humbrol Metal Cote Aluminum and Testors Aluminum brush very well without streaking. I applied the Model Master Fluorescent Red in two coats, allowing each to dry well,  over hard-cured Floquil Reefer White Primer(OOP model railroad paint). I was going to use  Humbrol Blaze Orange, but my tin of the stuff went walkabout and just turned up on my messy bench this morning.

Beautiful!!  Gives it a most distinctive look.  I definitely have to try one or two in operational camo and markings.
