After my back went bad and wife's broken leg issues interrupting construction am back at it.
Each side near stern has platform that carry a (SkyWave) ELCO PT Boat.  Boats painted and nearly done.  Takes tweezers to fit parts.
Locations for 5" dual mounts are in place.  Started on quad 40mm locations.

Instructions slip-up.  Step 13 flight deck is glued down.  Steps 15 & 16 flight deck is not on hull.

I hope everyone is healing properly! Must be somewhat better to allow a little model building. Good to see this one back on the front burner.

Glad to hear construction is once again continuing!

Have you considered adding fins, fins?

Could put '59 Cadillac fins horizontal on each side of aft most portion of flight deck.  Tail lights help pilots line up for night landings.  Jon sold me a 1/32 1959 Cadillac kit !

Cut both fins off car model.  Common car models are 1/24 or 1/25.  These fins at 1/32 are perfect size for mega-carrier.  Including them in build.

Thanks for practical and stylish idea Brian.

Appreciate your comments guys.  Sorry late at this, own Jon an answer.  Not building with no island like USS United States.

For those interested in details:   Has separate bridge and funnel assemblies to be placed near each other.  Using USS Lexington CV-2 funnel with mods.  Has more area for exhaust outlet than OOB funnel.  Is legit in that sense.  Added two 20mm and signal light positions and cabin to observe aft part of flight deck.  Bridge based on Essex bridge built higher with parts from other carriers and battleships.  Bridge & funnel be last to glue on then add masts.  Made platform for LSO with wind brake and ladder.  Positions for two Elco PT boats and four motor launches.  Narrowed arresting gear.  Kit has hundreds of deck edge and hull side parts.  Lot of time figuring which to use then glue on and modify some.  Worked deck edge parts with deck off hull.  Glued flight deck to hull today.  More deck edge parts and elevators to do.

Next build will not have 1000+ parts to figure out.  Can take pictures.  Won't look too different than prior ones.

Mega-carrier progress.   Our best pictures camera broke.   These are from prior camera, could be better.   Buy new one soon.
PT boats painted, nothing else is.   Black lines are 40mm positions.   Green lines are 5" turrets.   Airplane on deck is Avenger.
Main paint will be Krylon Pewter Gray, same color as plastic.  40mm and 5" turrets Krylon Classic Gray for contrast.   Same for 20mm if added.   Paint accents as determined.
Found cradles to hold PT boats, will be higher.   Found cranes too.   Some of catwalks don't have railings, will make them.   LSO platform indicated in last picture.
Lot left to do....

Do you have enough shelf space to keep this on when it’s complete? It’s shaping up to be truly epic (in both old and new senses of the word)!
Never trust a man who tells you that you have too many paints, for he is obviously a liar and will most likely try to deceive you again in future.

Yes & No --- Not in the house.  Do have room in backyard building.
Does show progress and configuration.
Thanks.

Update --- Port & starboard under flight deck sponsons on.  Elevators in, even more deck space.  Deck & hull side gun positions in (less guns which will go on after painting).
4 x 5" twin,  18 x quad 40mm,  14 x 20mm.  Bit more AA on/near island TBD.  Starboard Alco boat position done.  Port boat deck enlarged to hold Alco boat and a motor launch.  Need to finish that.  Plus are three single motor launch positions.  Now fussing with catwalks, railings, ladders.  Getting more WW2 mega-carrier character.

Oh to be a fly on the wall of that shipyard!

It's great to get an update and I can almost see it in my mind's eye.

If I was nearby, I'd stop over with a bottle of the bubbly for the christening.

Nice weather, sprayed first coat of paint.  Exposed things that need to tidy up.  Outdoor plant stuff lands on wet paint flight deck.
Added ladders.  Scratch built 1/4 of railings.  Followed 5" and 40mm with a few 20mm positions.  Added search light position port and starboard.
Conversion of super carrier to retro WW2 Mega Carrier really ties up a shipyard.
More to do.

Is like an island.  Far as 1/700 ships go, took on building hardest one first.  OOB and kit bash escorts be pleasantly simpler.

Mega Carrier will not be finished for end of GB.  Need to smooth out ruff spots.  Need to add color to flight deck and various accents.

Oh,,, need to paint aircraft !
