1/72 RAAF F-104G Starfighter

Hi all,
I have a lot of spare time at work, and have recently felt the urge to build things out of my comfort zone. So I bought an Academy 1/72 Starfighter and got inspired by a Gekko original from ten years ago:

Funnily enough I had that exact squadron marking in my stash! So:

And a final pair of shots showing my two most recent builds - ANZAC fighter allies. They look rather good together, don't you think?

No fancy backstory here, just really liked the look of Mirage IIIO camo and marks on a Starfighter. The decals are the kit's for stencils, Italeri MB326 for roundels and finflash, and spares box roundels to make the blue bigger. The 75Sqn flash was a dry-rub transfer that came from....someone...on our companion forum about eight-10yr ago, possibly Tophe. So thank you!

I hope you like it.

Love it, great work and really could have been too as Australia seriously looked at the F-104 on a number of occasions and RNZAF staff desperately wanted the Phantom.  :)

Very nice pair of hanger buddies
Work in progress ::

I am giving up listing them. They all end up on the shelf of procrastination anyways.

Oh my goodness, that's so gorgeous I just might need to take a cold shower!

Absolutely super, Old Bean! It always cheers me to see antipodean markings!

 :-[

Thanks folks, you're all very kind! This is one of the profiles I saw and saved - the one I worked from is possibly a later one, with the finflash higher up like my model - and just had to build. I saw the kit at the LHS last Saturday for less than $15 and - given I was in a bad way emotionally - splurged. And here we are!

Thanks again for the kind words.

Thanks!

I should point out the lighting in the garage is atrocious - the camo isn't as dark as it appears!

Talk about a silk purse from a sow's ear!  :icon_surprised: Ain't easy making a dodgy kit shine!  :) Seriously nice work!

Love the colours.  :-* May have to do up one of my many 1/144 in such colours and RAF markings with the help of an Xtradecal Hunter sheet.
Cheers,
Moritz

Nicely done again!

Though I had completely forgotten what an utter caricature that Academy F-104 is.
