Alternate 'Team Yankee'
« on: January 02, 2017, 05:51:11 AM »
I need to finish up with my alternate 'Team Yankee' I've been doing off and on for about the past year. I finished the Sheridan/Bradley scout vehicle, the MBT just needs a few chingaderas, paint and weathering and the Bradley is closer to being done than it looks. I'm still trying to decide whether to make it a straight APC (machine gun/maybe a TOW) or a dedicated ITV. Recommendations?[/URL]

I like the Bradley Sheridan combo! Is that a Merkava turret on a Leopard hull? It will be fun to watch these come together.

Similar concept perhaps as far as armor protection. Designs are 25+ years apart. It does look like a good match.

The Merk turret is actually on an M1 hull.
Both the Sheridan and the Bradley (M113 also) were designed with aluminum hulls. It was to make them lighter for amphibious operations more than for armor protection. Even then, the Bradley was almost 10 tons heavier when it entered service. I believe it's now about 15 tons heavier.

It does indeed. I was gathering images to do something very similar ... but polystyrene trumps pixels  :)

Funny story, when Australia was upgrading their ancient M-113A1s they went for a hull stretch.  All well and god but they discovered many (most) of the aluminium hulls had delaminated, which made them painful to fit in the jigs, let alone weld.  Ironically though it was discovered that this delamination, far from weakening the vehicles structure, as feared, had actually increased their resistance to penetration.

Love the samo on both. the Merkava turret looks like it was built for that hull! I would have never guessed that  :)
