I've been looking for a name for it, soemthing fishy, but I haven't settled on anything yet.

I'm thinking something like Chris Foss for the paint scheme, yellow and blue or black.
Hoping for warm dry weather over the next couple of weekends.

Dolphin (from the bull nose shape)
Thresher (from the large tail)
Moray (from the long back feature)
-
Well, this is looking very cool!
Thresher (from the large tail)
Nice! Space Fighter Thresher gets my vote ;D
-
Ok, you have my attention.
What would it look like if you flipped it upside down ?
-
Sail Fin Star Ship.
Wow is that a cool shape, Doc!
If you stuck it in an art gallery and called it a piece of art deco, no one would question it.

Thresher for the win, as the kids say. ;) I put the base coat on late yesterday afternoon - my granddaughter was kind enough to take some quick snaps. This is the Primer stage - I should have photos of the final finish by tonight or the weekend.

***edit - I manually reduced all of the html down to one actual link for each image. Now both images show when I went to "preview" so hopefully both will now appear in the post without further issue. - jjf
-
Photos are a no show I’m afraid. I’m sure this is amazing
-
Thanks for letting me know. Posting from FB for years without an issue...grumble, grumble. Links seem to work, but I'll try to get something more stable and presentable.

Hi
Did you mention Chris Foss? With a design like that it surely is a win-win situation :)
Count me in!!!!
Regarding the last pictures, to see them directley, you just need to put the hyperlinks between the [img*]http://your_hyperlink_here[/img*] tags.
Example:

Thanks, Antonio - I thought I had done that with the first attempt, but figured the links would work in the meantime - but thank you for the fix!
Hrm. Well thanks to Jeffry Fontaine, I managed to get one of them showing up properly, anyhow.

I cleaned both image links up and both now show in the original post. Hopefully it is not just my computer that shows both links and everyone can now see the same thing.
-
Craig - it looks both Chris Foss/TTA inspired and very retro!
-
Again, thanks to all for the help! The paint came out pretty good, though this is only the second time I've tried something in this vein.
Frank - thanks! It just sort of happened one afternoon while I was waiting for something else to dry.
-
it has a wonderful shape to it :-*
-
Thresher looks to be a very appropriate name, indeed!

It really does!
-
That is moving along very nicely.
Nice purposeful shape
-
Alas, I intercoursed the bloody penguin in the last stage of finishing, and had to re-primer and mask, so final paint won't be ready by the deadline.

That's disappointing.
I havn't had any requests for extentions that I've seen.
-
Yes, I thought about asking, but this late, and most of the entries in, including one of mine already, I am content. Could you move this to Sci FI builds when you get a chance?
-
Ok, that seems to work. Finished, after a repaint. I tried something on the first attempt that went a step too far. But I think I'm getting better with this sort of paint.

Five days, and not a word? What did I say? What did I do?
-
I just saw it! The gray and red are a good combo - it would easily fit in a Chris Foss/TTA universe. It even has an Aliens dropship vibe to it.
-
Sometimes we miss the new installments to a topic thanks to other distractions.
I have to say that once you applied your paint and decorations the subject has taken on a new look that is pleasing. Have to confess that most of my science fiction reads were back in the days before information sharing and illustrations were available in abundance aside from the artwork on the book covers so many of these subjects get lost on me.
-
Sorry, Doc, I haven't really been onsite much the last week or so.
I did see the pic's but I was rushing through so fast I didn't have time to post & haven't been back since (work, work around the house & trying to get time to actually build models).
She is a very nice build, though!  8)
(However, I did think she had a more "thresher shark" look about her in the monochrome base colour. ;))
-
Seems to be the business Doc.
Nicely done all around I reckon.
I am split between the base shape origin - Intruder or Sea Vixen boom ?
-
Thanks for the replies, fellas - much appreciated. I didn't stop to think before I posted.
Buzzbomb - the base is the fuselage and inner wing panels of the old Airfix Meteor, a pair of engine bells from an
Airfix 'Star Cruiser One' kit, and a tail from a much cut down and carved up wingtip ( it looked symmetrical enough to serve. )
from a Heller Javelin. The engine pods on the wings are rocket pods from the 1/48th Su-24 I won in our first contest.
Finally, the spine was one of the gun pods from the 1/24 Harrier, whcih have been kicking around my spares box for a
good quarter century.
-
Could be descendant of F-101. Creative configuration and color scheme.
-
Well Kudos Craig, those parts blended so well I could not pick a few out.
Got me inspired though. as the shape works so well.
Although the "heresy" of using parts of the long venerated Airfix Star Cruiser as "bits" was a jaw dropper ;)
