Title: Squid Attack - Finally finished!
Post by: Antonio Sobral on January 14, 2014, 04:16:49 PM
Happy New Year! :)

And after finishing the Nautilus and its base, I found in my spare box a nice vinil squid to play with!

So, I am using it for an alternative (and, dare I say, more interesting...) project.

Vinil is not something  I am particularly found of to work with, but, as they say, when life gives you lemons...you prepare a nice gin&tonic :)

The first thing was to fill up with putty the tentacle unions to the body :

Then it was time to thing of something.....

The "big" picture, with lots os details yet to be sorted out.
A rescue vessel (the Lonely Seagull is a name as good as any, I guess...) trying to rescue a victim.

And some close-ups.

The victim:

And the "Lonely Seagull", with some more detail added:

Now is just a question of adding some additional details...

Hope you like it!

Is the Lonely Seagull going to be steam-punked? ???

Or Sci-Fi'ed? :-\

(I think I'd prefer to see it steam-punked. ;) )

Thanks for the comments.

Regarding the steampunk versus cci/fi dicotomy I think this time is something towards a dieselpunk kind of stuff.
But you decide!

Here are some pictures of the latest developments:

The construction and additional detailing is pretty much done.

After taking the photos I decided to replace the machine gun with a search light.
Not as cool as the gun, but way more appropriate for a rescue vessel! :)

After that, the primer will follow.

Thanks for watching!

Wow!  Loving where this is heading.

Hmm? ::)

Maybe something bridging steampunk & dieselpunk, a transitional period vehicle/vessel? ???

There are elements which bring to mind both genres, to my eyes.... but, then, I do wear spec's! :D

(To me the hull shouts steampunk, while the machinery suggests dieselpunk. ;) )

Hi guys

Thansk for the comments!

In the meanwhile, I managed to complete the missing details and give the whole thing a coat of primer:

Antonia, this is great work. The Modelling is A one.

Although I am a little confused as to environmental context... is this underwater like my head says it is ?

I ask because unless the people have gills, there appears to be no breathing apparatus for the figures.

Hi

And thanks for watching!

Regarding where does this action takes place, in my mind it is on the coast, a rocky shore of some sort...
where the beast is lying semi-hidden in a hole, lurking for some innocent prey to feed upon  :o

I know, I know, regular giant squids are creatures of the deep....of the very deep actually, but  hey  ;)
this is not your average "off-the shelf" giant squid.

This is the famos wickedly vicious mutant giant squid. Which has just gained some color!

The wonders of Nature never cease to amaze me  ;)

Antonio, scary looking squid! This reminds me of "The Future is Wild" episode - "The Tentacled Forest":

The novel that could be written and/or the movie that could be made about its attraction to WW1 then WW2 Uboats.
Post war records showing statistically significant more Uboats missing than allies attacked and believed or know to be sunk.

Ditto on Weaver and Daryl J comments  :)
