Mark Two Strikes again!
« on: May 24, 2014, 10:00:38 AM »

The Xian J-3 "Tiau-Tiau Wa" (Jumping Frog) was an indigenous fighter developed in the PRC during the mid 1960s. The large radar dish available to them was too large to fit into a MiG-19 type airframe, so a twin-engined layout was adopted. Some similarities to Soviet Yak and French Vatour aircraft were noted, but the design team stated it was wholly original. Carrying two air-to-air missiles, of Soviet design, and two gun pods, it was slated to be a formidable threat to imperialistic running dogs who threatened the safety of citizens of peaceful people's republics.
It was cancelled after the entire design team was executed after another of Mao's periodic purges.

If you recall, I work with 2 guys named Mark, and one does what-of models. We recently got in some ancient kits, one of which was a Heller 1/50 Vatour, which was pretty crude. Mark 2 decided to "fix' it. He added a new canopy weapons and nose cone from his spare parts bin, and scrounged up some PRC decals. We had a good laugh coming up with the name "Jumping Frog".

That's really sharp and I like how well the camo works with the PRC markings!

Nice mods too. A real stunner!

Nice one - the Vautour looks right at home in Soviet markings.  :)
