1/144 Zvezda 747-800 ANZ WIF
« on: July 25, 2016, 09:23:03 AM »
Hi guys

Following in the footsteps of the DC-10 comes this - the new Zvezda 747-800 done in an Air New Zealand What-If scheme
I was going to paint this in the current black and white scheme but decided to change it somewhat to make it more colourful
Decals are from Old Model Decals (NZ) - a mix of 777 and 747-400 and cockpit and cabin windows from Authentic Airliners

I am currently building a 777 and will paint it int he same scheme I think\

Thanks for looking
MH

Nice!

Should do an A380 to go alongside it.

thanks guys
Whilst I don't have an A380 I do have a 777 ready to paint in this scheme. I shall post that once I'm done :)

Can you enter a finished piece in a GB? If not, I can enter my current project, the 777 in the same scheme. I know ANZ already have 777's but not in this scheme, which in my opinion is better than the current black and white one (even though I do like it)

It depends upon when you started/finished the 747.  See the rules here

You can always enter both!

That's a great combination of schemes, I like it! Much more exciting than the current version (which I still like).

How did you find the decals to use? Were they the inkjet or digital?

Masterwork.. again.

Really top class finish on that.
The windows decals look great. The are decals aren't they ?
But clearly the pax have paid no attention to the "all windows shades should be up for landing and takeoff" announcement.

Great craftsmanship. What did you think of the kit overall?

Lovely rendition.  :)

For the record it's the 747-8i (for International), the -800 designator was used in a previous derivative
program that petered out in the late 90s-early 00s. I was a wire design technical designer at Boeing during
that period, primarily 747.

They are digital decals from Old Model Decals (NZ) - a combination of 747-400 "Pacific Wave scheme" and the 777 decal set

LOL - typical Kiwis  - we never listen ;)

Yes mate, they are decals - they're from Authentic Airliners (Germany) and they are AWESOME!! I love them. easy to apply and they look very real. I was neveer a fan of window decals, but this guy changed my mind and now I would use them happily

What did you think of the kit overall?

I liked it - the fit is great and everything flows smoothly. The plastic is nice to work with. Infinitely better than the Revell offering that's for sure

Paint scheme, large & small lettering, stripes all look real and right.
Interesting and convincing are passenger windows with shades open, closed, in between, and what appears to be seat surfaces.  Cool build 8)
Like to se you build ANZ propliner.

I'm a repeat customer of theirs, I had a bad experience with some A-4K inkjet decals but then a great one with a digital sheet for the Fletcher topdresser. I've just finished another RNZAF model which is inkjet - if the markings didn't have a white component, they went on beautifully. I've had to replace the roundels and remove some other parts because they wouldn't stick, regardless of how much Micro-Set and Sol I used!

You've done a great job. Bring on the 777!

yeah - I remember I bought some older C-130 decals from him that were inkjet and I didn't realise you had to spray on any clear coat on them before immersing them in water, so of course they bled like crazy. I told him what happened and he sent me another set free of charge.
You don't get that issue now with the digital decals and he is phasing out the old inkjets with digitals - which are also on better decal paper.
Your issues with a lack of stickiness maybe due to the age of the decal paper.
I find if you contact him with any issues he does replace them - usually free of charge (depending on what the issue is of course)
