Me Bf-110L Langnase Hummel - Eduard 1/72
« on: December 05, 2018, 05:17:27 PM »
Hi guys

Another project on the bench (actually it is there for many month and I want
to get rid of it before the end of the year....)

This time the poorly known and many times forgotten Me Bf-110L Langnase Hummel.

Fruit of Willy Messerschmitt's brilliant mind...on a cloudy day :) :) :)

The original box...

Some surgery...

The Langnase Hummel was the result of a bet that Wilhelm Emil Messerschmitt, aka Willy, made with a friend.

The challenge was to fool the enemy, making the aircraft seem to be flying backwards, and with no pilot.

Hence the extensive remodeling of the fuselage structure...

Due to the perils involved, Willy decided not to risk an human pilot, being the aircraft remotely controlled by radio,
turning it into one of the first drones ever known (or maybe not :))

And after a first coat of painting...

By the way, hummel is the German word for drone, and langnase is "big nose".
For obvious reasons... :)

Thanks for watching!

This is doing very strange things with my head....
Never trust a man who tells you that you have too many paints, for he is obviously a liar and will most likely try to deceive you again in future.

Thanks for the comments!

It is indeed intended to do strange things to one´s head :)

I was not pleased with the painting scheme, so I changed it a little bit.

Added some gloss varnish and some decals, and the result is this...

A few details, like the landing gear, exhausts and antenna, still missing, but the finishing line is near :)

Thanks for watching!

Hi guys

Thnanks for the comments!

A quick update. After applying some oils...

And to prove that, despite its long long long nose, it is no "muzzle-diver" (the opposite of a "tail-sitter" :) ) please find below some photos with the aircraft landed:

Some minor retouches and the final matte varnish coat still missing.

Thanks for watching!

So interesting to study just for its kit-bash concept "backwardness" success.  Inspiring to try sometime when right kit comes along.  :-*
Fit and finish is beyond the call of duty and me.
