Title: Stranger in a Strange Land
Post by: Antonio Sobral on July 08, 2016, 06:22:56 PM
Good Day

Another day ... another project.

In spite of being a huge Heinlein fan, this project has nothing to do with his book. Sorry guys!

Using a Portuguese comic book from the 70´s (O Falcao/The Hawk - O Mundo Perdido/The Lost World), a Japanese plastic kit (Tamiya Triceratops)
and an Italian resin figure (Soldati), this is just a small example of world globalization.

The name of the hero is Jose Gois, and he got lost by accident in planet Mundia, where the wonders never cease....

Allow me to begin.

The original script (slightly modified by Yours Truly ;))

And here is the beast.

Oh No! The poor beast has no tongue!!!

After a quick call to the Bondi Vet (yes, we watch that TV show in Portugal :) ) the problem was identified and quickly solved!

Much better now. Thanks Dr. Brown! :)

With the beast finished, it is time to present the...well, not the beauty, for sure!

The bridle was made with some Aluminium (or Aluminum, take your pick :) ) foil, the map was just an ordinary paper printout
I made with my old HP deskjet, and the base is the lid of cigarette box covered with DAS modelling clay.

Thanks for watching!

To be continued....

Antonio's figure is much better. Is the soldier wearing sandals with socks?

Indeed  he is! The famous "Military Comfy" grade sandals with embedded reptile and bug repellent socks. :)

Thanks for watching!

That's 'cos they've become unfit from riding Triceratopses all day. They need to get back in the transporter and set it to delete a bit of fat while it's all just data in the middle of the process...

Actually, I'd argue that they've wandered a bit too far from Fort Zindernuef (from "Beau Geste" movie et al.) and Le Legion Estrangere.  I will most heartily agree that everything so far looks great.

Hi guys

Back from a short vacation.

Guess where! :)

And thanks for the nice comments!

Some more advances on the details:

The terrain was made with DAS clay, and the vegetation with an assortment of different stuff:

Everything is pretty much done in terms of construction, so painting will follow!

Thanks for watching!

You got it! Azores it is.  Even better than paradise. No snakes to tempt you!  ;D

Anyway, painting is on the way....

With just the base colors, everything looks a little bit "bland", but the oils will do the trick.

Thanks for watching!

Hi guys

A little oil goes a long way. After that, some matte varnish and that's it. Done!

And here are the final photos:

Besides excellent realistic finish detail, is off charts unusual subject.  Way cool 8)
Diorama setting adds whole bunch to basic build !

Outstanding build! The figure is fantastic; sandals, great skin tone representation and mustache! The camo on the uniform looks great, too - it looks Russian.

"Argentio, I think we're lost!" said the Lone Stranger.

Alternate version: "I don't think we're in Cosenza any more, Argentio!" murmurred the Lone Stranger.

Brilliant at every level.
Alien vegetation, weird critter, terrific painting.

Do not be surprised at a few homage jobs getting around model shows, as I love the idea and think the execution was first rate

Speaking of Heinlein, I wonder what subjects would make good models? Talking purely about space craft all I know of commercially is the Luna from Destination Moon and Rocketship Galileo which was done as a resin kit.
