Title: Bladerunner's chop-shop
Post by: Bladerunner on December 21, 2011, 04:36:05 AM
Hi guys,

I absolutely love everyone's work... truelly inspirational.  ;D

I received an invite to this forum, and I'll try not to dissappoint. Dont have any current ideas, but I'll post some of the work I've done over the past year or so. I'm not too concerned about the quality and complexity of my drawings regarding layers, shading etc., but merely share ideas, and really dont care wether they are plausable or not. I love SAAF subjects, so lots of those.

Interesting idea. Any specific idea regarding operator?

Anyway, had to go through many photobucket pages to dig out more of my work from the past.

Outstanding stuff, Bladerunner! I especially like the transport/commercial versions of the C-71. Amazing!!!

Canada and/or India to start with.
 :yarr:

After that just about any operator of a large enough carrier.

Hi Gang,

Thanks for the kind comments.   ;D

That hump on the Phantom is just smoothing out some joins and a bit of exageration.

I'll attempt a "Clunk" for Canada and India soon. A wing-fold would be cool.

In the meantime, some more of my older work.

Hi JCF,

Awesomely inspirational stuff!   :want:   Thanks. Now I'm excited about it!

On the topic of VSTOL naval aircraft, one of my all time favourite designs I did about 2 years ago, is the V-29 Akula. I even built it in 1/72.

I like your modified Neptune with the turbine and multi-blade propellers.  Nice work!

The J-35 Drakens in uncommon markings also caught my attention, thought they were Mirage IIIs at first glance.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the comments.   :-[

Yip, especially the two-seater. I didnt like the double-bubble, so I used a Mirage IIIB canopy.

Anyway, now I'm hooked on the Canuck, and just had to do a few more.

Thanks guys and glad you enjoy them.
I was busy going through some of my old stuff, when I came across the Wyvern profiles I did. Amongst them was a funny one I did, last year this time. It's a Wyvern on floats (idea from a good friend of mine) belonging to pirates, but it was then used as a background to draw some worms from the game "WORMS Armagedon". I edited it a bit.

Enjoy :D

Corsairs with an inline engine. Genius. I'd take those into a dark room and do very dirty things with them. Assuming of course, Scooterman, isn't already in that dark room doing dirty things to who the hell knows what.

Also all the best wishes to everyone for the feastive season. It's an honor and priviledge to share a cool site like this with you guys.

It's good to hear that Scooterman's "Darkroom skunkworks" is up and running... oops! did I say that too loud? :D Dont want that ninja to open up a can of whip-ass on me...   :ninja:....... :zombie:

I've been playing around with more ideas for the Clunk. Raised the spine and changed the nose and cockpit. Then changed that to a V-tail config, but have no idea what it's purpose will be ???
Some ideas would be appreciated?

Corsairs with an inline engine. Genius. I'd take those into a dark room and do very dirty things with them. Assuming of course, Scooterman, isn't already in that dark room doing dirty things to who the hell knows what.
To the smart ass who put my posting as my status ranking: I drink an extra beer in your honor! (And yes, I've tied on a few for Christmas.....*BURP*)

You are right, it does look like that. :o

Anyway, I've started touching up an old drawing of a Super Etendard with some Mirage goodies on it.

For something completely out of left field, how about a Neptune with folding wings and turbine power to put the "heavy" back on the carrier deck?

I've done a turboprop version, or do you mean turbofan? :slow:

Here is another Ultra Etendard with twin engines and twin tail fins.

Nice. The twin engined "Ultra Etendard" screams Mirage 4000 to me but the twin seat drooped nose is a nicer look. Reminds me of a two seat Cheetah dose out on 'roids.

Thanx,
The twin engined version was inspired by the Rafale.
I love the Cheetah B and D, but they look a bit clumbsy compared to the Ultra Etendard.

Hi John,

It was your profile of the turbine powered Neptune that prompted the suggestion of folding wings with turbines.  Early Neptunes performing the nuclear strike mission did get launched from carriers with RATO units attached and a long deck run to get airborne.  The aircraft were large and took up a lot of deck space so a folding wing Neptune would be a nice solution to that problem.  The turbines would just make it all that much better.

It'd be like an A2J Super Savage but not as portly looking:

Contraprops, of course, kick any prop-driven aircraft up a notch.

Hi John

The twoseater AZ lept from my mind to yours :P Have a look at mine I looked at two or three different drawings for the AZ nose on my profile, should I correct it or leave it be? If I have to correct it do you mind me using your correct nose profile?

Damian, I would correct it, as the AZ is an aircraft I love dearly. You can use the new nose and more, as I'm not the OEM of the aircraft. This should make it easy to see the difference.

Ah Ha!

I shall fix it, yeah the interception light shuldn't be there I just didn't delete it from the various layers as this blank serves for both the AZ and CZ and it is still in progress but I'll tweak the rest of the things. As for the slime light on the tail I based the positioning of the slime lights off of the "Milk truck" AZ which has slime lights on the tail too. Again most likely just a test bed aircraft and something I can omit as needed if I do a SAAF version but the SAAF forum already has some way more awesome Mirages than what I'm capable of.

Thanks Alex.

I'm late to this show but loved your raised-spine, v-tailed Clunk!

Earlier, you mentioned concern over the heft of your VF-100. Exactly why Avro Canada chiefs killed the RW proposal -- it would've done less that a Kestrel with twice the engines  :o

BTW: that RW proposal reused Avro's 'eyelid' deflectors (from their TS-140 'X-Wing' USN design). So, no viffing for that VTOL Clunk! Your rotating-nozzle VF-100 concept would've been much more practical.

Hi guys,

It's been a loooooong time since I've done any illustrations. Here is my first attempt since January!  :o
Seeing that the A-10 has been such a successful aircraft and it will be in service for years to come, I thought a "stealthy" version might work? I opted for "oldschool" stealth from the F-117. Here is my work-in-progress... Still need to work out something for enclosing the gun...
Any comments or advice welcome.  ;)

Welcome back, John!  Glad to see you at it again.

The "Silent Hog" is very neat!  I like some of the looks there.    What's the plan for the under-wing ordnance?

For a more purpose-built replacement, how about something like a scaled up Tacit Blue but with a Global Hawk type upper fuselage and A-10-style attack nose?  That may work.

Cheers,

Logan

Hi guys,

Thanks for the comments.  ;)
It is nice to draw again, but still battling to get into it... My passion for illustrating took a bit of a dive...  :-\

Regarding underwing stores, it never crossed my mind, because you can take the underwing stores away, and it's still an A-10, but take the GAU-8A out of the equation, and it is just an ugly bomber  ;D. Line to thought, that the Nighthog be a specialist version, going in first to take out key AAA targets only. This would give standard A-10's the ability to strike with impunity. There are other aircraft that can carry out tasks of delivering bombs and missiles.

Cheers

What if you replaced that ammunition wasting Gatling Gun design with something more economical and just as effective like a 35mm Oerlikon, 40mm Bofors, or a Bushmaster Chain Gun?  The GAU-8 is spectacular for sure but the system is designed with cycling unexpended/unfired ammuntion back into the drum as it cycles through a firing sequence.  I never thought of this as a good idea since unfired ammunition and fired ammunition cases were returned to the magazine.   Now that technology has given us the small caliber guided bullets it would be possible to add laser guidance into the mix for even greater accuracy and with that the number of rounds expended per target could be reduced to just what is necessary to service [destroy] that target.

Hi Jeffry,

I hear you, but that big old gatling gun is awesome  :-*! The Mirages and Cheetahs the SAAF used to operate, also retained shell casings and links with their DEFA cannons. This actually assists with maintaining the CG of the aircraft, so the concept is useful. Still chewing on an idea of folding or sliding doors to open and close the muzzle of the gun...

Cheers
John

My only suggestion is to change the weapon out.  The CG issues would remain so empty casings would be retained.  A single barrel cannon of a slightly larger caliber should be no problem in getting it to fit that same space on the A-10.  Just finding a suitable barrel to plop in to suggest that is the challenge for me in 1:48th scale.  Figured on finding something with a nifty muzzle brake that would look interesting but finding something that will fit is the challenge.  :)

Has a Sci-fi look to it - Maybe base it on Mars?

Pretty much what I was thinking would look good parked up front.
