The thing's nightmares are made from. Pooh Bear
« on: October 02, 2016, 10:22:10 PM »
Hi all,
Just having a massive deviation from "regular" modelling  :P, and decided it was time for me to learn to sculpt  :-\.
So as per usual I've shied away from the conventional methods/styles etc.etc.
I've always wondered about folks fascination with the whole Zombie/Post Apocalypse genre and being of the standing "don't knock it till you've tried it" - this will be my try at it  :o
I had the core mostly covered in modelling clay however this clay was somewhat past it's use by date so had to be stripped off and now I'm just waiting for the shops to open and get some fresh stuff (Fimo), so what we have shown here is the inspiration art work (credits to unknown artist) and the bare bear core, and no it's not a Minion >:D:

Not really sure how this fits into this forum (not really a WHIF, but not a reality - ah too heavy for my small brain to process at the 'mo).
As always feel free to poke a stick at it  ;)

Is that Christopher Robin's eyeball we see in the Hunny Jar?
Work in progress ::

I am giving up listing them. They all end up on the shelf of procrastination anyways.

Cheers to all for popping in.
Seeing as this sculpting thing is new to me I'm just quietly putting one foot in front of the other and trying to minimise mess-ups.
Found renderings artist - Dennis Carlsson. A talented man with a vivid imagination  ;D (has also done Eeyore, Tigger, Piglet amongst others in this style).
Will show some progress if I make any  ;)

Well it's easy to tell I'm new to this sculpting thing  :-[ shouldn't have fixed the arms yet  :D.
Looks more like a scary gummy bear/blob than anything at the moment. However a few more slip/slop/slaps with the putty and fingers and toes crossed it might start to resemble the rendering  ::).

Sorry about the photo, had to use the phone  >:D.
I'm sure the experienced figure sculptors are shaking their heads in disbelief with my "unusual" approach  :D , "there's method to my madness"  ;D.
Just shaping some toothpicks to create the teeth (easier than using putty and I'm too cheap to buy a kit to source them  :P ).
As I say, feel free to poke a stick at it - always good to see things from another's perspective.
Cheers.

Okay then, it's the early hours of the morning and this is bugging me so I've added a few more layers to get the shape more correct.
Unfortunately the arms are providing more and more problems SO I decided to cut them off  :o .
This didn't go quite as planned and has created a few new problem areas so I think it's best I consign Version 1 to the bin and restart on Version 2.
Hopefully I've learn't a few things from V1 and will avoid the pitfalls with V2  :)).
Old dogs can learn new tricks, sometimes it just takes a bit more training  ;D .
Cheers for stopping by.

Being the cheap bugger I am it was a case of "waste not, want not"  ;D.
So the original has been resurrected, arms reattached and areas filled out and roughly shaped (this is more a carving than a sculpt  :-\ ).
Once the basic features became almost recognizable I sort know where I'm heading now:

The lower jaw needs a lot more work.
Gums will be sculpted with 'proper' modelling putty and the teeth embedded.
Just looking at the photo (sorry about the quality) the brow and eyes need setting back some more. The nose was temporary just to give it some features  :D
CC welcome  ;)
Ta for stopping by.

"eyesore" is more like it
As gross as that is, I much prefer Pooh. Got a "Tigger" to go with them?
2 Reasons why a model is better than a wife:
1) A model doesn't get jealous when you look at another model
2) A model doesn't yell at you for spending money on another model
