Title: USS Alaska
Post by: ysi_maniac on January 27, 2014, 11:10:20 AM
Is there any model of USS Alaska or USS Guam in styrene?

Sadly no...  Yankee Modelworks makes a 1/350 kit and Samek makes a 1/700 kit of both Alaska and Guam all in resin.

Yankee's molds were all purchased by Blue Ridge Models, the in house company created by Freetime Hobbies in Blue Ridge, Georgia.  They are re-releasing all of Yankee's molds after overhauling them and adding finer detail, accessories, etc...  I believe the Alaska kit is not out yet but they are releasing them again as they go.  Merely a matter of time.

Hmm, I wonder if the Alaska-class could be whiffed into carrier conversions?  I could see them as fast carriers or, possibly, even armored-deck carriers, the better to deal with kamikaze attacks.

There are plans for the BB-61 class as well as MANY others.  Enjoy  8)

Fascinating!!  Those Flight-Deck Cruisers could contribute ideas to the FACES II conversion studies.

I believe it's "Merit" that has CB-1-3 listed in plastic in 1/350 scale in its catalog.  They've been listed for quite some time now though so no clue when they'll show up.  Its a start at least though  :)

I had an idea, technically Canberra is a Territory as well as a city and therefore meets the name convention of the Alaska class.  How about instead of renaming Pittsburg Canberra, Roosevelt instead dictated that one of the CBs be renamed Canberra instead?
