Fascinating assembly of incongruous parts into a unified flying whatzit. :)

Could be a Klingon atmospheric craft from before they had space travel - ya think ?

Thanks for the kind words, colleagues - always appreciated. A little painting progress. After a bit of reflection, I decided to use a regular brush.

An attempt at a 'patchwork' effect. Hopefully, the crudity will be knocked down by washes and weathering.

Beautiful!!  The heterodyne apparatus, does it have a heterodyning effect or was it developed by a member of the Heterodyne family (given their reputation as "Sparks" - Girl Genius reference - I could argue that either answer, or both, would be correct).

Your painting technique looks very good! I'll have to remember this.

El Mayerele - Yes to the first, no to the second. (  Always a pleasure to meet another Foglio Fan. )
It certainly has a heterodyning effect. And its tubes are magnificent!!! ( HUGE! )

kerick - Thankee! I was blending two polly s colors, a dark red brown ( I'll look up the proper name in a bit. ) and a sort of pastel orange called 'russian brown'. The corrugated wing surface really lent itself to partial blending & bleeding of the two colors. Its less effective on the smooth surfaces of the fuselage, which is why I'm
trying out the patchwork style.

Looks awesome, Craig - it really does look like it would fit right in a Phil Foglio book.  I'll have to show it to my wife; Lisa is a huge "Girl Genius" fan (has all the books, framed poster, the works).

It's beautiful, however I think the differences in the panel should have been less visible, but it's just my taste, the whole work is impressing!

Will you also paint any metal (copper or brass) detail?

Thanks, colleagues! I've liked Phil Foglio's work since he was doing strips for Dragon magazine back in the 'eighties - but much as I love the Girl Genius series, I've never been too drawn to his mecha. ( Some of the
clanks are pretty cool, though. ) I'll direct your attention to the youtube video linked in the first post.

The 'Reaktor' mentioned earlier will get alclad copper, and I wll be adding accents in various metallics here and there. Currently working on a suitable base.

Thanks, Colleagues, one and all! After a short hiatus for the Red Group build, I've gotten back to this project.
The Reaktor has been painted and mounted.

The front office. I am so looking forward to painting the canopy bracing...

And the base, cobbled together from CD cover plates. ( We burn a fair amount of CDs at the Talking Book Program, so I wind up with a stack of these from time to time. ) Plaster fill for weight.

Dr. YoKai, I saw Dragon's heaven (I didn't know it before) from the link you posted at the beginning, I understand more of the way you're building the ship!

Great results so far!

That Reaktor sure looks to be a potent power plant if ever I saw one!

Best of luck with the framing. That stuff's always a challenge for me.

Progress at the small end - the turrets are placed. I will try to put some boots on the gaps with a dot of Aves putty.

I was a little anxious about mounting the props ( a 1/350 Gold Medal set I picked up at 60% off at King's Hobby. ) but the solution turned out to be rivets. ( Isn't is always? ;) )

The engine faces still looked a little bare, so I added some louveres.

So ... you won't be operating this from your secret base?  ;)

( I used to read Girl Genius, but I got lost in a welter of new characters and hopelessly intertwined situations and serial disasters ... I do still love Mama Gikka, though.  I think she and the Jaegers would be a great basis for a spin-off series.  :)  )

This is getting close to done - here's a couple of quick snaps. Better pictures of the

Wow it's like you put a Do-X in the transporter from The Fly and it came back morphed with...something.

Outstanding work, Doc! The brass tank up front is especially well done as are all those engines & props!

Colleagues, thanks as always for the kind words. It's nearly done - I need to finish the underwing parasite aircraft ( Which have taken a third form, combining the original hover tank concept, as you will see below. ) I have been dawdling, idling and otherwise preoccupied with a couple of other projects, but it's getting there. These are the new aircraft, andas soon as I can figure out what kind of trapeeze to hang them from, it'll be off the bench.

And finished. Mostly. While attaching the parasite aircraft, one of the forward out board props popped off and vanished into the maw of the great god, Sprue. I'll fabricate another one day soon, but I wanted to get this hulk off the bench for awhile... :-\

Thanks for looking! Next up, the long-delayed SYNS of Dr. Sivanna
