One could almost initiate a Bender GB here…all in different schemes, scenes and the like (profiles as well).  It could be the "Going on a Bender" GB ;D

A 3D printer and time on his hands, its the devils workshop!
(When are you going to start selling them?)

As for selling them..  :o   See the black items behind the smaller Bending units ?  That's how they emerge from the printer in an extremely complex six piece kit form.  Painstaking trimming and assembly, possibly a chisel blade to the forefinger, much blood to clean up, some sanding, obligatory glue huffing, an elongated burst of silver paint (aka chroming), fine detailing with black & white acrylics and after this hectic and mind numbing 2 minutes of extreme modelling.. he's done.  So..  are you sure you guys still want one considering how much of a Herculean effort Bender demands ??  ???

BTW, Photoshop is my friend  :P

If they're in a file format accepted by Shapeways (.STL and a few others) you may be able to print the figures (in various materials) through them:

Some existing examples:

I've used STLs from an open source here - the original rendering isn't my work, only the scaling, printing, assembly & painting and bleeding - not kidding on the blood btw..

Anyhow, the Benders and Hypnotoads are readily (and freely) available for downloading from here:

and the Hypnotoad was found here:

What can I say - I suffer for my art !!!
...and yeah, the alternative usefulness of those "rafts" that are formed automagically by the UP3D sw has not gone unnoticed by me either - they've already featured as headlamp guards and rudimentary mesh armour for some of my other projects.

Is the material produced by the printer hard to cut? Is it like styrene or more like resin? Perhaps a razor saw would be a better choice.

Short answer:
It's like styrene.
Long answer:
It depends on each batch - seriously !  The first couple of spools I went through were white ABS as supplied with the machine. It was just like dealing with a sort of Games Workshop easy going takes liquid poly no problem doesn't fracture when trimmed way.
Then I loaded up with a black ABS purchased online from somewhere in HK and it was more like a mid '60s FROG or Airfix hackncrack.
When I printed up some bases (WH40K compatible as downloaded from Thingiverse) I did them in the white stuff and they came off their "raft" with little effort - the slight plyability enabling the loose anchoring to give as soon as a fingernail came in contact.  The black stuff however, wouldn't release and the application of a chisel blade to "nudge" it off resulted in a jab to the middle finger on the left hand... the immediate aftermath being recorded back there for posterity (and my amusement - "hey look Karen [squirt..squirt] ").     PLA & nylon are even more brittle, but for my modelling purposes, ABS is the go as it's totally compatible with that which we do regardless of it's brittle factor.
