This is the infamous N757A “Catfish”, the first Boeing 757 ever built, later extensively modified for use by Lockheed Martin as an F-22 sensor and avionics testbed. It’s been on my “to catch” list forever, so it felt really great to shoot it landing at PMD yesterday.

Now we need matching picture of the CATBird, the sensor and avionics testbed for the F-35.

Interesting bit about the Catfish being the first 757. Didn't know that.

Apparently BPK/BigPlaneKits is about to release a 1/144 757 from new moulds. Jolly good news. I was secretly (or not so secretly) hoping for Zvezda, but... hey... any new 757 is more than welcome.

Also, here's the Chinese testbed for their J-20 (which is kinda the Chinese F-22 equivalent), using a Tu 204 (which is kinda a Soviet/Russian B757 equivalent) as a basis.

Thomas McMurtry guides the X-24B in to land on its last flight, an unpowered jaunt from 13.7km up to end at Edwards AFB. Nov. 26, 1975. The X-24C was to follow and test hypersonic flight but budget overruns killed it. One faction of aerospace buffs says it went "black" instead.
