New Cap City Autogyro
« on: October 11, 2016, 05:32:07 PM »
Since an engineering problem (ie how to attach the lift engines)  has bought my flying carrier to a halt, I have decided to start this project which I hope should prove somewhat easier.  The autogyro from New Cap city on Caprica.

Auto-gyros are so neat looking and pretty easy to build if you have the parts, I'm surprised we don't see more of them.

I'm really looking forward to seeing this one progress, in your talented hands I'm sure it's going to be a winner!

Thanks fellas.  Current status before my run of shifts start tonight and brings any model work to a stop for a few days.

This autogyro looks really good! Where did you get the rotors?
There was a helicopter with a similar layout - the Focke-Achgelis Fa 223

Thanks guys.  The rotors are modified ka52 rotors from the spares box.  Never heard of that chopper before.  Thanks for the pic and link

The New Cap City autogiro was inspired by the Fw 61 (aka Fa 61) helicopter.
The engine mounted prop on the Fw 61 was for engine cooling rather than
propulsion.

Managed to get some work done on the autogyro on my pyjama day after all. Discovered, after I had finished the framework that the starboard side was at more of an angle the the port. and had to cut it off and re-position. Not 100% happy with it, but I'm not completely re-building.

That's what I was thinking. Then I saw the big prop on this one and thought maybe the designer didn't understand. Still cool though, and those rotor pylons are a gorgeous piece of engineering!

Yep, the Caprica CGI design crew went for looks.  ;D

In the RW I doubt a twin-rotor autogiro would even work due to the nature of how an autogiro rotor system functions,
indeed it would probably destroy itself more quickly due to ground resonance than the RW large autogiros that were
actually constructed.

Fortunately twin rotor autogyro technical issues don't affect styrene builds.

But it has drive shafts, doesn't that make it a helicopter   ???

Maybe it's just gearing between the rotor sets, so they don't get out of sync & hit each other? ???

No no All good. I've enjoyed the watching the discussion.  To be honest I  didn't know very much about autogyros at all when I  started this.  Its all helped my understanding of them.

As far as I am concerned, I love a model that would be "technically wrong" but "aesthetically nice"... ;)

It's a feature, clearly to counter some form of torque ;)

Love it, great work!
