Title: A101 Bomarc RAAF
Post by: Rickshaw on March 07, 2016, 08:18:50 PM
As part of its Inapertwa project, the decision was taken to purchase a modern SAM system to protect the cruise missiles against surprise attack.   The Boeing Bomarc system was chosen as part of a layered defensive system.  Over 50 launchers were installed in and around Darwin airstrip along with the associated radars.  This is a model of A101-89, a SAM which was never launched in anger, doing it's job to deter possible attack against the Inapertwa cruise missiles.

The model and launcher is the Belcher Bits Bomarc B kit and launcher.

Very cool! I do enjoy a well-finished missile on a launcher. Bravo.

Looks great! I like the contrast between the launch platform and the missile.

The missile went together rather easily and quickly, the launcher took longer and I'm still not happy with it.   It won't go fully vertical nor will it stay there for very long.  Shame really 'cause I first fell in love with the Bomarc way back in 1967...

You've got some serious skills, Mr Rickshaw and the very cool markings certainly give weight to the argument that few things spice up a model like those 'roos!

Well done!

Thank you, Brian and Finsrin.  The model resides in pride of place in my display cabinet.  I just wish it could be made to stay elevated!   8)

Small hole drilled via pin vise and thin wire inserted to keep elevated and removed to lower ?
