Sukhoi B-503 "Yukikaze" 1:48
« on: September 24, 2012, 04:41:57 AM »
Folks,

A few days ago I found this picture on this forum...

...and decided that I have to built it :) Of course I'll change verticals and exhausts to look more like Yukikaze-ish but I won't modify it to look exactly like "Yukikaze". A year ago I've started conversion of Su-35 into Yukikaze but it was a faliure...

So I ordered Kitech's something-like Su-27 :)

I'll post some photos when there'll be something to show :) Now I'm still thinking about canopies. Any ideas?

I thought about F-16 canopy. But what scale? 1:48 or 1:72? I think the best would be F-22 canopy but don't know if there is vacformed 1:72 canopy to this plane.Buying two cheap F-22 is also an option.

Awesome project!  :)

I'd say F-22 canopies in 1/72 would probably look best.  :)

Perhaps you could cheat and use a pair of YF-22 canopies, or are they too different?  I'd reckon YF-22 kits might be a bit easier to find at reasonable prices.

I'm searching for two cheap YF-22 or F-22. There was an awful 1:72 F-22 made by Aeroplast but it cost more than I thought :)

Still no progress (time time time time...need more time! )...but a question...

I've ordered two cheap 1:72 F-22 kits so I have canopies but still I have a problem with cockpits. I know that Yukikaze's pit lokks like that:
http://www.gearsonline.net/series/yukikaze/super-sylph/sup-sylph-08.gif

I'm thinking about buying two Pavla resin cockpits but for what plane? I think that Harrier's pit is most suitable, of course there'll be some modifications :) Here is a photo of stock cockpit:

What do you think?

First of all, It's nice to see that this topis catched attetion of so many great whiffers :)
But, back to the model...yesterday it was quite good:

But today...a few hours ago...suddently... terrible thought..."#$^%*&% !!! Where are the wheel wells?". I couldn't mount landing gears directly on the fuselage underside. It must have GEAR WELLS. So with tears I have to cut Yukikaze to mount these $%^&*% wells. Suprisingly I had fit problems only with the first one. Here is result:

And finally , front gear strut:

Thank you :) I don't know if it's a tip. I used very nice drawings of Yukikaze from this site:
http://gearsonline.net/series/yukikaze/super-sylph/super-sylph-d.html

Wings were simply cut to shape , wingtips were cut and dropped down. Width of each wing was extended with styrene sheet and gunze putty. Verticals are made of sheet of styrene. Additional vertical stabilizers were made of...additional horizontal stabilizers for SU-35 :) The hump behind cockpit is made of two parts of F-16's fuel tank. Horizontal stabs are again additional horizontal stabilizers for SU-35. Intakes were made of styrene, without drawings could be a faliure.Cockpit is simply Su-27's cockpit - maybe seats will be different. Canopies are 1:72 F-22 canopies. Front gear strut is combination between 1:48 Su-27's front and main struts and main strut from 1:48 F-14. Width of sides of cockpit was extended with styrene. Wheel wells are just 1:72 F-22 wells modified to be like "boxes". That's all :)

Mr white putty and humbrol. In Poland there is a putty for wood called STUCCOLEX which is
great for small holes like air bubles.

Good evening (It's 10:30 p.m. in Poland now:) )

Today Yukikaze was primered. Also , canopies were fitted. I had to add a fairing in front of first canopy but I like it afterall :) The radome is more sharp now.

More progress in thursday 'cause I have to buy some vallejo paints for Yukikaze and Do-335 :)

Thanks guys :)

You know ,it's great to be a part of a forum where I can build my models without grumbling of rivet counters.
I'm from Poland, where playing with history is often taken as a sacrilege. I had a plan to make a whiff story about one survived polish destroyer: ORP Błyskawica but actually I'm afraid to post it on any polish forum.
On one of polish modelling sites I've seen by my own eyes 13 pages of rivet counter's quarell about TKS tankette. Main topic was: in rear wheel of TKS there were 13 flat screws or 15 conoidal screws? Imagine-13 pages of unnesessary irritation! WHY? FOR WHAT? Where is the fun of modelling in this case?
For example...I love Spitfire MK IX. This is most beautiful plane in the world for me. But when I see a whiffed Spitfire it's not a heresy for me and I hope that it never will - it's kind of different point of view. I'll never unnderstand "real" modellers that trying to persuade me that I'm not one of them. OK , maybe I'm not , maybe they're "real" ...maybe we're all heretics here. But we have one thing that they'll never have-imagination.
I'm happy to be here :)

Good evening (here it's 11:30 p.pm.) :)

It's undercarriage time :) My DREMEL changed personality for a while , become a lathe and helped me with front wheels :) Main wheels are from Su-27:

Not much , I know...I hope I will paint Yukikaze tommorow :)

P.S.

I desperately need two UN logos, like this:
http://www.rpa.xbp.pl/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/ONZ_txt.jpg

I have no chance to print FAF logo so I need to improvise :) Don't you know if any decals with this logo are
available?

"Firefox" remake with Yukikaze instead of Mig...Pure insanity (in a positive sense :) )

Maybe :) I'm going to keep the look of Yukikaze from anime...but I have no decals to even imitate markings of this plane...so I have to improvise :)

If we suddenly see a remake of Firefox appear (probably with either Chinese or North Korean protagonists), you and Ben (aka taiidantomcat) are going to be in big trouble... C:-)

Redo...OK no problem. Any ideas?:)
First attempt went to trash bin few moths ago :)

Final decision about markings...not Royal Navy...not even original Yukikaze...but JASDF, Canadian or Italian markings :)
