USCG would be very interesting!

A developed version of the pure jet XC-123A could be interesting, particularly if combined with the later fuselage with sponsons for the main landing gear.  Perhaps an uprated version using B-52 engine nacelles instead of the B-47 inboard nacelles used on the one aircraft actually built?

For that matter, the sole C-123T prototype was built with T56s and required a redesigned, wet, wing.  Replace the R2800s with PW150s or so (basically the same change from Cl-215 to CL415) would work better as you wouldn't need to change the wing and could still use the fuel tanks at the back of the nacelles.

The In Action book shows a variety of users and marking & camouflage schemes.

I just checked the In Action book and the USCG used C-123B's as did the Royal Thai Air Force and the Royal Saudi Air Force.  Of course, one of them also replaced a C-119 as a Thunderbirds Support Aircraft.  Lots of interesting possibilities here, including the "White Whale", Gen. Westmoreland's VC-135B.

This is the only reasonable sized public domain photo of the RTAF C-123T.

A good book on C-123 operations is Flying Through Midnight (https://www.amazon.ca/Flying-Through-Midnight-Dramatic-Missions/dp/1400151864) by John T. Halliday.

He flew with the 606th Special Forces Squadron which flew Secret Missions Over Laos During the Vietnam War using UC-123B and UC-123Ks.

After their withdrawl from Vietnam, the Black Spot AC-123Ks get turned over to the US Coast Guard to make use of their huge infra-red turrets and search radar as SAR aircraft?

I like the turbo prop idea too.

Definitely a whiff since the two NC/AC-123K's were converted back to standard transport configuration, albeit while retaining the wrap-around camouflage.

The XC-123A was a conversion of the second Chase XG-20 assault glider prototype, the
only one of the two to fly as a glider, the number one prototype was converted with piston
engines as the XC-123, and eventually led to the C-123B production aircraft.
The ability to be equipped with engines was designed into the glider right from the beginning.

I didn't realise that Australia actually placed an order for C-123s:

Nice find GTX, good thing they cancelled the order, the Caribou offered far superior STOL performance.
