Reposting this from WWI Era thread.

Apply Luft 46 to WW1 ending up with a Luft 20-25 scenerio.
Has kit-bashing and group build possibilities.....

Works for all combatants

i was thinking of proposing a "The Great War GB" for 2014, as it marks the 100th Anniversary of the start of World War 1
on the bench:
-various models

on the drawing board:
-various 1/72 TinTin aircraft
-1/72 Eurocopter Tiger (Belgian Army)
-various other 1/72 and 1/144 aircraft

That was my thinking too.  I think a big WW1 themed anniversary GB for 2014 is a must.  Keep up the suggestions though.

WWI is a must, In my book.  :)... Just hate having to wait a year!!  :P 2014 seems forever away.

I think A Sci Fi or it came from the scrap pile build would be good too.

This guy has built ships in the hundreds from various kits:

http://www.artships.com/

Something like that could be fun, and encourages creativity.

I really like an "It Came from the Scrap Pile" GB. It's always fun to sort through my parts bin and create something new.

Think flexible --- don't have to tye ourselves to 2014.
Can do WW1 or Luft 20-25 or combine as one.
Many other fine suggestions out there too.

Dunno if anybody's suggested this, but as I'm too lazy to wade through 14-ish pages... maybe a Pop Culture Group Build? (Things from movies, TV--even cartoons and Japanese anime and Macross--and books.) I'd say this needs two divisions: one for builds starting from official "media merch" kits and one for more serious conversions--for example, if we're comparing builds of KITT from Knight Rider, the original accurate 1982 T/A "Official KR Merch" release should be in one division, a total conversion from a plain-vanilla '82-89 Firebird in another, and I'm not sure where the "Official Merch" rerelease using a screen-inaccurate '89 Turbo Trans Am body should fall.

or an "aerobatic teams group build", lot of possibilities there (red arrows Hawk T2, Bleu Angels Super hornet, Thunderbirds F-35, Russian Knights PAK-FA...).

or the "look at the Future GB", with the purpose to create next generation aircraft, tanks, ships,... for the armed forces (arround the 2020/25 timeframe)

Given the development timeframe major projects such as those, try closer to 2055  ;)

Mind you, taking your concept a little further, what about a Next 100 yrs GB?  In other words develop models/profiles/stories set around 100yrs in the future.

Given that the aircraft is quite sprightly when unloaded, how about a display team of Antonov An-72s using the Eastern Express 1/288th or A-model 1/144th kits?

from a Hyperscale post ......

outrageous build contests?
blind build ... one guy is blind-folded (no knifes) and another tells him what to do.
One guy's wife was his "guide", and he got his model built, but there were some contestants that dropped out mid-build, very frustrated. Usually you have a "6-Hour build", where the model has to be built in 6 hours (obviously), but with a twist like selecting a model to build, and then being told to pass your chosen kit 2 people to the left, and you get whatever the person 2 seats to your right chose. Lots of colourful language, but really fun too.

One club used to do "Parts Box Wars". A bunch would bring in their spare parts and dump them out on a table. The participants would divide up into teams and a subject would be given such as "beach defense breaching" or "the ultimate pizza delivery machine" and everyone had two hours to build it from whatever they could find. At the end each team had to present their creation and explain how it worked.

I'm sure we can have fun with ideas such as these too :)

My ideas ....
Panic !! -- any training, 2nd/3rd-line or civil aircraft pressed into combat in emergency.

Multi-seaters -- any single-seater converted into a 2- or 3- (or more) seater -- scale-o-ramas or stretches.  And not just aircraft either -- it can include F1 racecars -- yes, I have seen a real 2-seat F1 car.

VTOL -- anything vertical-take-off -- "Stock" class (modified helicopters, Harriers etc) & "Whif" (total whif or so heavily modified as to be a UFO).

Rocket power -- anything powered by rocket or pulse jet (excludes missiles & real space-rockets).

---- discuss, argue, berate, exhort, cuss, curse, condemn ...... encourage ....

I think this one is definitely worth consideration. It crosses many areas of interest as well as eras. Should encourage participation.

Folks, in preparation of a new GB Poll going up, here is a summary of the ideas I am looking at including in the poll.  This will save you scrolling back through this thread trying to find the various ideas.  If anyone wants to elaborate on any idea, please do so.  All I have done is cut and paste ideas.

Ideas so far:

A Profile build - Either a physical model based on an existing profile, or a new profile based on an existing profile or a story based upon either.

-----------

Balkanised Group Build? A country that splits up or is never unified in the first place. A non-united China is a shoe-in for this. Or maybe a secessionist state of Texas? Transvaal etc. instead of South Africa?

-----------

Maybe "Swap the role": big bomber scale-o-ramed into fighter, fighter into strategic bomber, civilian into military, military into civilian etc.

-----------

"Vive la résistance!".  As to what this will include is quite open.  For instance, it could include French Revolution (and all derivatives/extrapolations of...either way), Soviet/communist revolution, maybe even go anarchist like jcf and do "occupy what-if"  or just about anything...one might eene think of it as a revolution against certain elements...

-----------

"The ISR GB" (ISR = Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance) which should cover all aspects of sneaking, peeking, and tactical voyeurism.

-----------

Racing Theme - e.g. Reno racers, F1 cars etc  It could be Reno style racers: race cars; racing tanks; racing submarines; racing B-36s or even racing airships...

-----------

Drop Tank GB - need I say more?

-----------

Space & Scifi

-----------

Extended April Fools GB - the one this year was a great success despite being rushed.

-----------

A whiffer's Tiger Meet

-----------

Beyond '46 GB

-----------

Commercial/Civilian GB

-----------

How about a 'How the Other Half Live' GB, where we swap specialities:
The Profilers have to down Mouses (Mice?) and glue something together, and the Plastic Bashers have to put together some convincing profiles?

-----------

Bent/unbent or extended wing GB

-----------

How about a "Show us your uglies" GB where you either post models (of all forms) that you either consider ugly by design or execution.  Perfection certainly not required here.

-----------

Punked! GB  A GB for Steam & Diesel punk.

-----------

"Alter-Ego"...... as in taking your favourite aircraft/tank/ship from your favourite videogame (I talked about simulation, but hey, nothing against the likes of Ace Combat, Airforce Delta, HAWX, or Lethal Skies), taking your favourite ordnance configuration- F-117 with AIM-9Ms and employed as a night fighter of sort, navalized F-22 with laser-guided AGM-65s, Su-27 with a full-wing load of R-33s, F-15C armed with AIM-54s, militarized X-32...... ideally one that you use/see in the games but never saw in real life, but ultimately anything goes.

-----------

Pist'n Broke GB. Designs created in a drunken fit by chief designers down on their cash and luck. These would be builds that no-one in their right mind would actually make unless they were tanked and skint; i.e. Handley Page in 1939 mating the wings of an 0/400, the fuselage of a Hampden, 4 pusher RR Merlins and underwing stowage for 6 torpedoes in desperate attempt to fill an Air Ministry request for a martime patrol aircraft. Or Ferrari fitting a Fiat 500 body on a chopped P40 chassis and drive train with '50s style chrome wings and trim to capture the US market.

-----------

Dyslexic GB or Its all Base over Apex GB. Builds that are made where "someone" stuffs up a dimension, 3 view drawing or layout. Like putting the wings on a 747 on upside down, so you get 4 upper surface blowing engines. Or Kamov sticking the rotors on the bottom of the chopper.

-----------

GB of Navy A/C in Air Force markings and Air Force A/C in Navy markings?

-----------

Desert warfare. All ages, and all categories.

-----------

Okay, here's an idea: take an iconic and influential plane/tank/ship/car/whatever, remove it from history, then make a model that's based on the consequences.

-----------

Anachronisms: generalized Old Battles with New Weapons.

-----------

where the design concept integration went amuck......

-----------

The Fear and Trepidation GB:  in other words, a GB for those aspects of the hobby you are scared of (for whatever reason).  It could be doing a Vacuform kit or perhaps a resin one.  Maybe it is doing a figurine?  Or doing a profile?  Or writing a backstory?  Maybe it is doing a diorama or trying to model water?  Whatever the fear, why not use this GB as an excuse to move out of your comfort zone and finally conquer that fear.  You know it deserves it!

-----------

All Things Floaty GB?

-----------

"Board's Choice". Wherein one lists several build proposals, and the rest of the board decides what you do...

-----------

World War in the '20s/'30s.

-----------

SJGR = Shit Just Got Real GB/WTSHTF = When The Shit Hits The Fan GB/WTBGU = When The Balloon Goes Up GB

-----------

The STRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEETCH GB.

So the idea is this: take any vehicle (floating, flying or rolling) and turn it into a means of luxury transport for people who's taste is inversely proportional to their bank balance, the only stipulation being that this modification MUST include a significant increase in the vehicle's length.

-----------

The Coulda, Shoulda, Woulda GB.  In other words, this would be a GB where you take a standard selection decision and instead look at what the alternatives were.  For instance, instead of RAAF F/A-18s you have RAAF F-16s or F-15s or Mirage 2000s or...

This could be done for aircraft, land platforms, ships or even civilian systems (e.g. Police cars).

-----------

"It Came from the Scrap Pile" GB.

-----------

Pop Culture Group Build? (Things from movies, TV--even cartoons and Japanese anime and Macross--and books.)

-----------

"Make it Bright" GB with lots of bright schemes or similar?

-----------

aerobatic teams group build

-----------

Next 100 yrs GB?  In other words develop models/profiles/stories set around 100yrs in the future.

-----------

Panic !! -- any training, 2nd/3rd-line or civil aircraft pressed into combat in emergency.

-----------

Multi-seaters -- any single-seater converted into a 2- or 3- (or more) seater -- scale-o-ramas or stretches.  And not just aircraft either -- it can include F1 racecars -- yes, I have seen a real 2-seat F1 car.

-----------

-----------

SJGR = Shit Just Got Real GB ----------- WTSHTF = When The Shit Hits The Fan GB ----------- WTBGU = When The Balloon Goes Up GB

These should all be just one group build proposal instead of three separate group builds since they pretty much imply the same thing.

Navalized?  Any land-based aircraft converted to a water-based (whether carrier-borne, equipped with floats, or whatever) aircraft.  Conceivably, this could be extended to other vehicles, too, such as AFVs equipped with flotation gear of whatever kind or even converted to ford shallow water submerged.
