My son bought and built the new Lego Saturn V model. It's 39" long (approx' 1 metre).
The bottom pic it's on a 36"x24" cutting mat.

It comes with some tiny figures of astronauts which measure 1/2" high. That makes the model 1/144 scale

The model can come apart into it's three stages, these pics show it together.

Legos have certainly changed since I last had them.
Wow is that an impressive piece of work!
I can only imagine the patience it took to put it all together!

Well that's an incredible kit indeed!
I prefer the "all purpose" Lego pieces that in the end could become anything crossing your mind!
Since I last played Legos they went more and more towards "special" shapes that do not stimulate too much the fantasy...
Just my opinion, anyway this kit is awesome!

Adam Savage of Myth Busters and friends builds this kit on Tested.com. Look it up on YouTube. It's quite funny.
Having built many a thing with LEGO since 1965 I like to note what existing parts and new parts they need to create a new product.

I thought it looked like the same size as my Airfix one! Wow! What a cool thing! After watching Apollo 13 and falling into space fever as a kid I built my own Lego Saturn V that could stage, but nothing that detailed or so big!

For me it was more like aerospace fever. I was in first grade when Sputnik 1 went into orbit. I can imagine what kits like this could have been like in conjunction with the Willy Ley books for kids (or, for that matters, his books for adults that were also read by kids - certain topics dad was cool on me reading on).

Having sat up all night to watch Armstrong jumping off the lander on TV back in '69, seeing this Lego model appear now was pretty amazing.
Mind you, I've just got to get the Dragon 1/72 kit now --------- ;)

I've heard the Dragon kit has ample scope to exercise your aftermarket and scratchbuilding skills...

My son is right into the Sci-Fi stuff and some of the real world space that Lego makes. He's on a Lego forum so when I showed him that tower, he actually wasn't that impressed to my surprise. But then he told me that there's a lot of people who design models from existing Lego parts on this forum and put the plans up for everyone to see, where the end result sometimes goes into production. One guy made up the tower from existing parts, show the result and posted the plans ----- guess where the plans ended up, the knock-off companies in China. My son says 'if' Lego do a tower, he'll buy that one ----
An interesting thing I saw on the forum my son was showing me, is that the scale of the tower was 1/110. I would imagine then the Saturn V is the same scale and not 1/144 I had originally thought it was.

As well as meself (see above comment ;D) my almost 18 year old son wants the Lego Saturn V and agrees that when Lego releases a launch tower to go with, that's what he wants. 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)
We are both heartily sick of the theft of intellectual property by a "certain" countries inhabitants without giving proper credit and remuneration to the ORIGINAL creator/s of said design. >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

It's all been building (literally) toward this one – @NASA_SLS has joined by #LEGO #rocket garden! It's a thing of beauty.
