Title: 2001 Collection
Post by: Buzzbomb on April 05, 2017, 06:43:48 PM
Due to interest in another thread on this most excellent forum, here are a few shots of the 1/144 2001 A Space Odyssey models.
These are all resin kits by Stargazer Models. The master maker is an avid fan of 2001 and many years of research have gone into his models.
So a plug for Stargazer models https://www.planet3earth.co.uk/stargazer%20models%20for%20sale.htm (https://www.planet3earth.co.uk/stargazer%20models%20for%20sale.htm) But if you really need to know about Ian's research on 2001 go here (https://www.planet3earth.co.uk/2001_a_space_odyssey.htm)

Ian from Stargazer has a 1/144 Moonbus coming out shortly, so I will have to add one of those in as well. :D
so thanks for the interest Gimper !

Brian, if those are yours - amazing work! The lunar dust billowing away from the moon lander is very effective. The Discovery backdrop is great, too.

Beautiful work, man. You're right about Stargazer devotion to the 2001 models - when he get talking about researching the originals, it's pretty amazing.

Via Facebook.

It is noted that Space Station Five only rotates to produce 0.2Gs And yet they were walking and drinking as if in one standard G.

Not sure where the 20% came from.  If someone does the math (need the RPM of the station) then we could have an approximation.

Using SpinCalc (http://www.artificial-gravity.com/sw/SpinCalc/SpinCalc.htm) and a 152.5m radius, I get 1.08 rotations per minute to get 0.2G. It's 2.42 rotations per minute for 1G, which may be too high for comfort.

0.2G sounds reasonable if they're going to the Moon (0.16G) or Mars (0.3G).
