Ok folks, time to vote on which Group Builds you would like to see in 2019. I have put up all the suggestions proposed in the last 12mths. See here (http://beyondthesprues.com/Forum/index.php?topic=49.330) for more info on each - starting at about Reply#332. Also feel free to ask. Please note that I may have merged a couple given they had similar or overlapping themes.
Poll will run for 2wks. Each member gets 5 votes and you are able to change your mind if you so desire (e.g. to help whittle down the results if you se your preferred is not going anywhere). Campaigning to get your favourites picked is allowed.
Plan is to have the first new GB start no later than 1st Feb 2019.

So many choices. Overwhelming. Must take list to my shrink !

Which candidate GB(s) does Slowy Jet best fit ? http://beyondthesprues.com/Forum/index.php?topic=1067.0 (http://beyondthesprues.com/Forum/index.php?topic=1067.0)
It is a scale-o-rama.
Does it best fit in "Weird Build" or "Tongue in cheek" ?
Or other ?
Bill
-
it could fit in multiple.
-
"Spirit of Thunderbirds", is that the aerobatic team or the TV show?
-
Wow there's certainly no lack of options!
Many thanks for being so inclusive, Mr GTX!
One small thing, it's not letting me change my vote. I wasn't sure if you'd changed your mind on this or if something needed tweaked.
Thanks again for offering so many great options that I'm sure we can all find our Favorite Five.

Corrected - box needed to be ticked. People can now adjust their votes should they wish to.
-
"Beasts of Burden" and "Airliners" -- one GB ? ? ?
-
"Spirit of Thunderbirds", is that the aerobatic team or the TV show?
This was one of my suggestions and was aimed at the TV show, intended as a sci-fi build but with a Thunderbirds slant on it.
Boy is there a lot of choice here !

Well, you really can't go wrong with Scale-O-Rama.

11, 7, 6, 5 & 4 votes each for what I voted for, at this point in time. Rather surprised that a couple of them aren't polling higher.
-
3,7,4,2,1 not doing well at all :icon_crap:

I really think this needs a second pole after all the chaff has been discarded, way too many choices IMHO.
And like last year, really struggling to even come up with some possibilities for a build in any of the subjects ---- :(
-
Just remember:
- You can change your votes if need be for example if you can see that our preferred choice has no hope of getting up; and/or
- You can also campaign for your preferences. Try to convince others why a particular GB should get voted for.
-
I'm actually surprised and a little confused at the great popularity of Scale-o-rama. I enjoy seeing what people accomplish, but when I think about it, my stash is full of kits of one scale (1:72 in my case); in order to participate, I would need to build out of my preferred scale, or buy a kit for the specific purpose of Scale-o-rama into 1:72. I'm not totally against that, but it does give me pause...
Some of the others surprise me because they are so specific (for example: Sweden and Rhodesia).
On the other hand, I am happy that some of my favorites are doing well. Vote for US Enters WWII Early and Forgotten Fights!
-
I'll let you in on a little secret regarding scale-o-rama, Acree:
It doesn't matter what scale the kit is actually in, just what scale you build it to.
For example, a two or three seat 1/72 patrol plane can be turned into a 1/144 transport with some creative decals and/or painting. Alternately, you could scale it up to a 1/48 light aircraft too.
When I play this game, I picture a silhouette of the aircraft and imagine what role it could take on if it was half or double the scale.
Also, scale-o-rama applies to parts as well as whole kits too. Lots of room there.
The pic below is a 1/72 Revell He-219 that I turned into a 1/144 airliner with just a few tweaks.

"Rhodesian Bush War" and "Out of Africa" as one GB?

"Rhodesian Bush War" and "Out of Africa" as one GB?
I was thinking that. If those who voted for the Rhodesian one are happy, I will transfer the votes for it to the Out of Africa one.
-
Would be fine with me. Same thing perhaps, as "finsrin" suggested, with Airliners and Beasts of Burden/Transport?

Fine by me. As explained earlier, people can either move their votes or else I can simply combine them.
-
Only a few days to go folks. If you haven't voted yet do so. If you have, great! If you have but you can see your preferred selections aren't getting the votes you can do one of two things:
- Campaign for your selection.
- Change your votes.

Well, yes...for the "Out of Africa GB":

Take an aircraft - bolt on a water tank, add a spray bar or trap doors, et voila water bomber or crop duster.
It's like Chanel.......
You know it makes scents !

What would you place that under --- floaty things ?
-
Hi Kitnut617
I'm pushing the firefighting and cropdusting GB, Dusty Crophopper in the centre of the poster was both ( and a racing aircraft incidentally see the films Planes and Planes:fire and rescue)
But a firefighting float plane would be a shoe in for the floaty build GB

Hi 'Mog,
sorry I just don't see it in the list here
-
Hi Kitnut
Approximately nineteenth one down
Sorry it's "crop dusters and firefighters". My bad, I got it the wrong way round

Good to see "Beasts of Burden" climbing up the rankings, about time the workers got some recognition & not just the flashy fighter boys & bomber barons!
"Floaty Things" seems to have stalled & needs to pull its finger out. ;)
And "Invasion of Japan" is dawdling along in full NAAFI* mode. ::)
*NAAFI: WW2 British slang for "No Ambition And F___-all Interest".

Upvoted for NAAFI definition helpful to us clueless Yanks.

Navy, Army and Air Force Institution. They run shops (and bars)on British Military bases.
As for Rhodesia and Out of Africa, I’d definitely support merging them as I voted for both.
Come on people, vote for invasion of Japan!
-
So, the results:
- Scaleorama GB with 22 votes
- Floaty GB with 13 votes
- Beasts of Burden' (Transport) GB with 11 votes - this could double as the annual non-military GB too if we wished
- US enters WWII early (1940) GB with 10 votes
- Extended Spanish Civil War GB/Alt. Spanish Civil War GB also with 10 votes
Now, we could go with just these. However, if we merge a couple that had similar themes, we get:
- Scaleorama GB with 22 votes
- Beasts of Burden' (Transport) GB + Airliners GB with combined 20 votes
- Floaty GB with 13 votes
- "Out of Africa" GB + Rhodesian Bush War GB with combined 12 votes
- US enters WWII early (1940) GB with 10 votes
- Extended Spanish Civil War GB/Alt. Spanish Civil War GB also with 10 votes
As you can see, this latter one only really adds in the African options with everything else essentially the same. it does potentially give us 6 GBs though which if we were to plan on them being 3mths long with a potential overlap of 1 mth would take us out until the end of Feb 2020 (assuming the first GB kicks off at the end of this month). I'm comfortable with this if you are.
Does anyone have any comments on which option we should go for? My preference would be whatever gives greatest overall participation.
I will give people a couple of days to respond (either here or to me via PM) if you have any strong preferences one way or the other. After that, I start hunting down the Moderators for the GBs....volunteers welcomed!
-
I'm all for combining. I think broader GBs is better, so that works well for me.
Cheers,
Logan
-
I agree with Logan - broader is better: more likely to get greater participation. I presume most people are at least somewhat like me: I have my own preferred scale, time period and countries/regions I like to model and the more ability I have to shoehorn those preferences into the group build, the more likely I am to jump in.
I am also completely in favor of your suggested timeline.
Hooray for positive results! Looking forward to the calendar.

Beasts of Burden + Airliners + Nonmilitary as one conglomerate GB.
Surprised in a good way at results for Scaleorama and Floaty !
-
"Beasts of Burden + Airliners + Nonmilitary as one conglomerate GB"
Didn't see "Non-military" on the original list, but in the spirit of conglomerating: add Cropdusters, Firefighters, and Billionaire's Toys - since they all fit in the the "non-warplane genre"
-
Concur with the combined vote, also would like to second Acrees suggestion of widening the non military build.

Combining seems like a good idea to me - and add my 'third' to Acree & Robomog's suggestion re: cropdusters, etc.
-
I would say definitely go for combining: nothing I voted for would go through otherwise!
-
I assume we still have the year-long Clear your Workbench?
-
Beasts of burden include military airlifters?
Does it include ground and sea transport too, i.e. trucks, freighters, trains, humorously overloaded mopeds?
-
Or the British Army Hippo Corps .

My reading of it included air & ground, with the probability of sea.

Up to he GB Moderator at the end of the day but I see no reason why it shouldn't.

"Non-military" wasn't listed as such but we decided a few years ago to have an annual non-military gB of some description. I just mentioned it here when I made the comment about merging.

Again, up to the GB Moderator but I could see such vehicles being added to the "Beasts of Burden" concept.

Hmmm roll it all into one can call it the Unarmed GB.
Static like button is an encouraging enhancement. ;D
