heres my current ongoing builds based upon the reissued Airfix Angel Interceptor ...

first up, a long wingspan 'Dark Angel', new styrene wings of similar angles to the existing foreplane, guns and rockets filled and removed from the forward fuselage, extended nose oleo, new skids beneath the fuselage from wire and styrene

next, a 2 seat trainer, tail fin ramjet intakes removed and rebuilt with filler, forward fuselage weapons filled and removed, canopy extended upward and rearward with space for a second seat

and my third one for now, a 'VTOL.' Angel !!! tailfin trimmed, fuselage weapons removed, Pegasus fairings from an old Lindberg Harrier (i only bought it for the engine shape provided in the kit) nozzles cast up from a Matchbox Harrier, wings mounted onto the upper fuselage step
undercart im stil trying to work out, possibly again skids tho in keeping with the original design

started another two, one as a 'normal' Angel Interceptor, the other, hmm stil unsure as yet, doodling either swept forward or twin engined/twin tailed ?

I would vote for the twin-tailed, of course... but do it your own way... your decision will be the best :)

oks i give up, lol, picked up another couple of kits so as to make the other one too :)

hmm just wondering what it'd look like in other schemes, doodled out a French one which does suit it, hmm

'found' an old 'Snap and Glue' Airfix issue whilst looking for something else, just chopped off its tail and am currently filling and fairing in the intakes toward the nose with cataloy, stil to make and shape new wings from thick styrene ...

various releases of the Airfix 'Angel Interceptor' and the decals therin (the kit has been issued in a number of different box styles over its production run)
Markings wise, the early offerings were quite acceptable for their time altho theres no excuse for the later 'rub down' snap and glue issue transfers !!? as can be seen, the reissue is almost worth getting just for the decal sheet if youv one of the older kits in the stash !

ps. the very first issue back in 1968 was in a narrow 'red stripe' type boxing :) one for collectors perhaps ? the crisp white plastic mouldings are a lot sharper than the current release, time has not been kind to these old kits.
It does mean however we can happily butcher them in ways we probably never thought of back in ye olde days ?

twin engined/twin tailed ('Cobra' like) and swept forward models underway (just after i took this snap i reduced the wing chord from the te. of the fsw. giving it a sleeker 'Sabrebat' shape !)

ps. just thinking of ChrisTophe's mention of 'twin tailed' has led me to roughly doodle how it might look as a twin boom type :)

Joe, I think that engine shape is the ONLY worthwhile part of that Lindberg kit. I've been thinking of combining it with the Marfix vac-form that actually has the proper wing separation to do an engine change diorama.

Very nice stuff here.

I'm quite taken with the VTOL version you cooked up. The Harrier nozzles just seem to work so well with that big intake.

I'm more and more tempted to pick up one of these kits that my LHS has on the shelf and cook up something.

Didn't even know of this kit until Friday (1/6) saw it for first time at model shop. Bought two for stash and will follow what you guys do. Never would have thought of making it a sort of U-2. Lotz of other builds lined up, can let this one sink into the old grey cells for a while.

hiyas, good idea, i have copied the nose missile from the UFO. Interceptor so does make sense, i should be back at the modelling bench over the coming week so heres hoping a bit further forward with my ongoing builds

Going back, here is another and different treatment of Angel Interceptor.
First long wing at BTS. Looks good, looks right :) Thinking 7x,xxx ft altitude.
I would like to build a long wing higher altitude version of something. Don't know what yet.

I'm showing my age here, but a "space angel" simply has to have Scott McCloud shown as the pilot. For those who aren't aware, "Space Angel" was an animated series from the early 1960's, from the same folk who brought you "Clutch Cargo", and the main hero was named Scott McCloud, whose nickname/operative codename was "Space Angel".
