I went ahead and got a SmugMug account, as the $ is worth it for security, stability and 3rd-party hosting.
Plus it can be used for secure file sharing and business, if so desired. The site banners live in my account so
we shouldn't have any more problems there.

BTW folks Imgur also has a no third-party hosting policy explicitly stated in their Terms of Service,
for the moment they don't seem to be actively enforcing it for general folks, business use is a no-no,
however in light of PB's action, this may not last.

Imageshack is another hosting service that some folk recommend.

more scared of how complicated shit
actually is than they ever are about
whatever’s supposed to be behind the
conspiracy.”

For myself I'm going to see what my ISP can offer. It's local which if I'm going to pay for something, I prefer to pay them.

Regarding all the PB troubles, I've been going back through my postings on other forums I visit and replacing my PB pictures with ones that I have put on Flickr. I would do the same here but there doesn't seem to be any " Edit " function. Am I just missing something obvious again?

Never mind! I was missing something obvious, but have figured it out now. Getting old and slow really blows!

Yet... most of reddit is imgur posts. They even include handy links, including bbcode to insert images into bulletin board threads. They may mean using imgur to host files for a web site (vs. a social site like this)

I just spent a wonderful 27 days of "spare" time repairing all my forum picture posts after PhotoRansom broke my links.
I've re-uploaded everything to Flickr and the edited EVERY post I can find with Flickr links.
I've completely ditched PhotoRansom, they could have actually informed it's users of what they were intending and give us a choice :icon_vader:

This was posted on ARC by "11Bee", and it appears to work for now.

Free Photobucket fix that works for old posts in Firefox and Google Chrome...

Got this in an email from 72ndAircraft, it worked for all my old posts here and on Britmodeller:

Some direct links to get extensions for Firefox and Chrome browsers to delete the PB ransom demand and restore the original image:

Firefox extension https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/photobucket-embedded-fix/?src=search

Chrome extensionhttps://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/photobucket-embed-fix/naolkcpnnlofnnghnmfegnfnflicjjgj?hl=en

This is a painless exercise, it simply adds an extension to the browser and doesn't alter anything in your account or computer registry. Thanks to rubenandres77 on the RevellAtions forum for the heads up to this fix.

Now it may be a copy/paste to your addy bar if the links don't work direct.
Hope this helps.

It's a simple click and so far appears to work. Time to right click/save what you can gents.

Photobucket is working for me perfectly now. Yesterday I posted a picture about my new (free) book:

(adress of this Photobucket's picture: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v670/Tophe2712/BookP51_2017_En_zpskepj9hcd.jpg )
The story of my Photobucket experience is:
1/ I was a free user like almost all of us, I use Internet Explorer
2/ Uploading was so low and without quick update of the Library to get the link, I tried to subscribe, cheap (about $2/month); it was alas not accelerated, then I found a way to get the link faster: not going to the Library but clicking on the uploading thumbnail of the uploaded picture.
3/ Then nothing was working anymore, for me like for all of us.
4/ Now (and for a few weeks) it is working again, perfectly. And I still pay just $2/month, not huge amount.
I don't know if that works the same for a new subscriber now.

3rd party hosting will be disabled after December 31, 2018 for paid Plus accounts below the extortionate $400/year level:

TOS linky

Relevant bit:

"ANY PAYING MEMBER WHOSE PLUS ACCOUNT WAS IN GOOD STANDING AS OF JUNE 1, 2017, SHALL CONTINUE TO RECEIVE ALL THE PHOTOBUCKET SERVICES THAT WERE AVAILABLE TO HIM/HER ON SUCH DATE, INCLUDING IMAGE LINKING AND 3RD PARTY IMAGE HOSTING, UNTIL DECEMBER 31, 2018 AS LONG THEY MAINTAIN THEIR CURRENT PLUS ACCOUNT SUBSCRIPTION OR A HIGHER LEVEL PLUS ACCOUNT SUBSCRIPTION DURING SUCH PERIOD OF TIME."

Tophe, I wonder if Photobucket made a mistake and later realized you were a paying member so they had to let you continue to link until Dec. 31, 2018 and then restored the capability?

I'm happy to see it's working again for you and I hope this was helpful.

Thanks for this explanation, meaning all will disappear in a little more than one year. This is sad, and incredible: why are they rejecting customers? Well, maybe this is marketing, preferring to sell to 10 customers $400 than to 1000 customers $2...

Well, the maths works out....

Not saying that I like their decision though.

OK, as a paying member of PhotoBucket I've just discovered that I can't renew my old plan, so I only have a few days to find another site & start changing my links.

Luckily all of the important images are saved on my PC, so the loss of P'Bucket is no big deal, except that I've got to go through everything & swap out all the images of mine I can find.

I'm trialing Jon's suggested site, SmugMug. So far it seems like the best option, as I don't mind paying a reasonable amount for decent service.

My PB account is set to expire in May. The last three months they've sent me spam giving me the opportunity to pay twice what I was before. How generous. No thank you, I've made other (more cost effective) arrangements. They hosed me so badly by saying they were cancelling my account when I still had six months left and then making me fight to keep what I'd already paid for that I wouldn't even use them if they were free.

I don't think there's enough cuss words for me to respond to a survey with true accuracy.
